Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

You can remove the AIR pump, without coding the ECM. I haven't removed mine yet, but there is a solenoid on the back of it with a plug. You may need to keep that plugged in. You will have to reroute your serpentine belt as well.

From the Harmonic balancer, go up to the alternator, under the tensioner, overtop the A/C pump(if equipped), down under the power steering pulley, overtop the water pump, and down under the balancer. This requires a smaller belt, so take 3M scotch tape and route it first. Over lap the tape a little bit. Mark where the tape first over laps the part where you first applied it to whichever pulley you started with. Cut the tape at that exact spot. Lay the tape in a straight line and measure it with a tape measure. This will give you a very close measurement for the proper belt length to use, when removing the AIR pump, for your header installation.

NOTE**** It is important to keep the water pump turning counter-clockwise. So make sure it spins opposite direction of the crank, when rerouting the belt.

Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

The answer to your question is, no, you can't NOT delete the AIR system (or at least part of it) with headers. There is no fitting on ANY of the 2.8/3.1/3.4 headers available for the AIR system.

As for the belt, it's a part number interchangeable with Drive-Rite 915K6 for air conditioning... Have to look at my other belt for the non-A/C system non-AIR belt part number (believe it's 875K6 but don't hold me to it).

Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

If a fitting for the AIR tube is welded into one of the header tubes can the AIR system be retained or does it still interfere with the headers?

Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

No. The problem is that the air pump itself does not fit under the headers.

Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

I have a post in my thread about how to remove the AIR pump and what size belt you will need to get and how to reroute the belt, so the water pump still turns the proper direction for coolant flow. It is titled "!992 Camaro V6 Help". I held the shift button in too long, while typing the thread title, hence the exclamation point at the beginning.

I'll also save you searching. From a thread titled: "2.8 Pacesetter Headers", I wrote:

"Just a couple of other thoughts come to mind regarding the header install.

I should have mentioned that if you are deleting the air pump, and obviously the pulley from the system, you can either go with the AIR pump delete pulley or you can change the serpentine belt. Use Dayco part number 5060825 belt (no AIR Pump, no A/C). The routing diagram can be found on the Dayco website:

You also may or may not need to extend the wire for the O2 sensor, depending on your harness. "

That plus the info above should get you going.

Re: pacesetter headers 3.1

Thanks, the original thread is 2 years old, so yes, links do change. Dayco now has their own website set up and you can check for belts on line - you can check by Dayco part number, vehicle vin or by dimension.

http://www.accessdayco.com/BuyersGuide.aspx

I haven't looked at it in too much detail for routing diagrams.

Hope that helps.
