To sell or not to sell...

As a couple of you know, now that I have a daily driver ('95 Grand Am) to drive back and forth to school and work, I've decided it may be time for a different third gen. The RS has served me well for the last 3 years, and my family for the last 12. Its gonna be so hard to sell it, and quite frankly I never thought I would sell it ever (it'll be going on the lot at work this spring, and I'll probably be the salesperson who sells it ), but the urge to have a Z28 or IROC is getting harder to ignore as time passes. A guy at work's mom has a '91 black Z28 with under 50k I'm going to look at ASAP.

So how much is a good price for mine? Take a look at it on my site (www.geocities.com/jee89). Keep in mind, I am selling it with a $350 Eclipse CD player, $350 Alpine alarm with keyless, new window tint, new brakes, starter, alternator, etc. I have all the documentation on it, all service receipts, window sticker, even the ad from when it was in the paper when it was brand new!! It has PW, PL, cruise, t-tops, AT, etc, with 89k miles. And it is every bit as clean as the pictures on the site show. The body is flawless and the interior is mint.

So what's she worth?

No mods yet...

I'm the only third genner who's daily driver is faster than their third gen!

I hate Geocities... they're the only website that takes forever on my fast connection. Anyway, without seeing the car, you might want to reconsider including the stereo system- you won't get what it's worth. I know if I was buying a car, and it had a stereo, I wouldn't care about it. I'd look at the seller and say "so? I care about the engine & trans." And if I buy the car, you're out the stereo cash.

I'm sure you can find a cheap receiver on eBay and dump it in just for the sale.

Without seeing it, I'd say $3000. Maybe $4000-4500. Don't give them the window sticker or the ad- keep them for yourself. The new owner probably won't care about 'em at all.

[edit] Geocities finally kicked in for me- nice car! Definately at least $4000-$4500... it's in great shape. The problem is just finding a buyer.. but the car's worth it. Maybe you could throw in the ad/sticker for an extra $500

yeah, dump the system for some cash or keep it for your new ride. Keep the stuff that means the most to you, the next guy probably won't care about the original ad and that kind of thing.

Thanks for the kind words Tom...I am going to be asking $4,495 for it, and I don't plan to do much dickering, if any. My boss says I should throw it out for $4,995 and take $4500 (to make someone feel like they're getting a deal), but I don't wanna overinflate it and turn people away. Opinions on this idea?

The reason I'm leaving the Eclipse CD in and taking out my speakers and amp is because a CD player adds $175 to the book value, and I only paid $250 for it 2 years ago. I can get a brand new $400 Alpine for $280 (my best friend is a car stereo manager), so I'm not honestly worried about the radio. I AM taking out the amp, Bostons, K&Ns, chip (gonna try to sell it to someone as an extra) and my IROC lights.

Any other ideas??

I can't beleive you are selling, man. I couldn't part w/ something like that. I'd be more than happy to give it a new home...if I had the money.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the car. I was waxing it Thursday night and I said to myself, "It's gonna kill me to sell this thing." But as I looked at it, I tried to picture what it would be like to be waxing a mint Z28 or IROC, and then everything just sorta came to me. I've wanted an IROC or a Z for so long, its just too hard to ignore.

I always wanted one, but never wanted it for a daily driver...I'd be even more neurotic parking it somewhere or driving it in snow than I am already with the RS! But with the Grand Am, I have an awesome driver I can take anyway...if it was my only car I'd be miserable, but as a driver its perfect.

EVERYONE please give me your opinions...I need to know what you guys think. I don't wanna jack the price up and have it sit, but I don't wanna give it away either...its too nice a car. So please, everyone respond.

From the looks of it I'd give about 4k for it if I had the cash!

Sounds a lot like my car, only I have less miles, and it isn't average...its friggen flawless

Thanks for the info though!! $4,200 is just about right, and KBB says it's worth $4,700, NADA said $4,300. I have a firm offer for 4k as long as she can come up with the $$....wish me luck!!
