MPG

Some of you may remember a couple of months ago I posted that I was having MPG troubles. I was getting horrrible mpg. Well then the car got put up and I didnt get a chance to fix the problem. I think next weekend I will be replacing the O2 sensor. I have also been told that since I run a 160 stat I get bad gas milege when it is cold outside?!?!?

My question, besides the O2 sensor, it there anything else I should check/replace?

sometimes you have to pay attention to the small things like if your tires are underinflated and some of the other things i forget right now.

91 Blue RS with ASCD SS hood w/hood pins, Flowmaster 80 series w/3 inch dual exhaust, K&N, Hypertech Power Chip, Bosch Platinum wires and plugs.(19 years old and all this bought and paid for by myself, except the car that was paid for by State Farm...long story with the minor fender benders and them not wanting to pay for repairs...mwahaha)

Also I was looking up at www.autozone.com to see how much the o2 would be. It gave me three choices,
BOSCH
O.E. TYPE
12014
$17.99
BOSCH
UNIVERSAL
11025
$18.99
BOSCH
UNIVERSAL
11027
$21.99

Which one should I get? What is the difference between them, is one supposed to be 'performance' orianted(sp)??
Any help would be nice.

12014, the same one the V8 guys use, is the one for our V6 car. It has the correct wiring harness terminal on it. The others don't, you'll have to re-use the old pigtail from your old oxy sensor.

There's a breed of oxy sensors out there that are called "heated oxygen sensors". These have two extra wires on them. One wire goes to ground, the other goes to a positive battery source that is "on" when the car's "on". These two wires go to a built-in heater. All this does is help the oxygen sensor operate faster since it doesn't need the exhaust to heat it.

It's also used for some aftermarket headers, in which the oxy sensor is too far away from the motor. When this happens, the oxy sensor never heats up (or takes a lonnnnng time to do so), and the car always runs in open loop. People install the heated ones to get the car into closed loop. I bet if you searched the tech forum for "heated oxygen sensor" you'd find part #'s.

mAjInRS, good point about the tires! Also an alignment & lube job helps MPG too since the tires shouldn't be fighting each other

If you read Tom's message again, he said that 12014 (the OE one) is the v8 one.. note OE means Original Equipment..

yes get the O.E. sensor. it's very easy to replace. only thing is you'll need like a 21 or 22mm wrench. if you don't have one they're kinda expensive. all you do is disconnect the connector, then unscrew the sensor. install is reverse.

Rough estimate, 10-13 MPG. Last fall I was getting around 25! So as you can see this really sucks! I cant afford it either, so I sure hope the O2 thing helps.

What are other people getting?

Well I finally got around to put it in, about 10 mins ago. Once I fill up again, I will measure MPG.

Also the car seems not to bounce at idle anymore, and takes off more smoothly!

BIG PLUS!!!!!!
