So how much can you get out of a 2.8?

I just sold my 305 H/O for other reasons and I am thinking of downsizing to a 2.8 this time round.

Tech data says they have around 102-135hp depending on the year. How much more can they go?

Im not really interested in nitros, so is 200hp asking to much?

yes 200hp is asking to much. A well prepared 2.8 should run around 160-180hp

What would that involve then to get that 160-180hp? Parts and price estimate would help me a lot.

I think I beat KED to it! Get a 3.4!! LOL Ked will give you all the details. But his 3.4 has 160 off the bat, rite Ked??? You might as well since you're doing an engine swap anyways.

The BEST PART, is the 200 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE. Down low RPMS.
These are high reving engines.
With this boost in engine size, you gain back alot of seat in your pants fun!
You would be pleased!
I'm gonna add nitrous after a Posi!
I care about ET's, not HP.

My bad, I meant I sold the whole car. Thing was literally falling apart and I didnt have the money to fix it up allong with my other project car. (72 vette)

The 3.4 swap definately sounds good. That kinda touque and the weight loss from not having a 305 probably makes it a nice even matchup eh? Dont suppose you have pics of it up anywhere?

I dont think I will go that route tho. I dont have any 'reliable' help so its gonna be just me under the hood.

So say I find something like an 84-86 v6, what would be needed to give them about 150hp to start with?

if you dont want to get a complete new intake manifold, port and polish the origanal one and go to autozone and they have carb adapter so you can put a 4bbl carb on a 2bbl intake manifold.

Okay, First off start your new V-6 out with TomP's famous Tune-up, this should get you back up to about original working order.

Then do some mods, like K&N filter(s), TB Bypass, and Flow master exhaust.
The some more advanced mods...
Crane Cam 2030, and Roller rockers. Porting of you exhaust and intake ports, etc.

I think those should put you in the range of 150Hp,

(Instead of a Crane Cam 2030 if your on a budget, talk to Ked about the 3.4 Litre cam Swap he has been talking about.)

Sorry I forgot these are mods that I was thinking of for a car with MPFI...
