porting my heads out
porting my heads out
I;ve been porting my spare set of heads today and its alot easier than I thought. I;m basically just smoothing over rough spots and casting errors, I;m not really trying to change the head design or anything. So far I;ve smoothed the intake short side radius where there was a real sharp edge. I have smoothed over the intake valve guide bosses to look like a tear drop. And I;m just now smoothing the short side radius on the exhaust side and smoothing over the boss guides there. The exhaust side has some sharp edges around the boss guide, so they look like they are going to take more work than the intake side. It should only take 3-4 hours to do each head I calculate. I;m using a Dremel BTW LOL!
If ya wanna get brave.... do the bowls too... just smooth, no major metal removal. MAKE SURE you atleast match the intake/head side too.... You should feel some difference in doing what you are doing
throttle response will be cleaner, mid and high end will be great. Low end should stay the same, but it will rev cleaner.... Can't wait to here the results

thanks RED. I actually just finished up in a little under 2 hours total. I might however get a couple new stones to go back and smooth all of my work over a tad bit better. I also need to go and get a set of gaskets for the intake gasket match , then I should be through with it all.
Heres what I have done:
*Smoothed exhaust and intake valve guide bosses into a tear drop shape. The exhaust side was worse since there was a good bit of rough edges around the boss.
* On the short side radius, about a half inch before the valve seat, there was a "ridge". I smoothed this over on the exhaust and intake sides.
NEXT, I will cleanup my work a little more, intake gasket match and then the heads are off to the shop for a valve job, .020 off, sitffer springs.
