exhaust question

Ok now I have a nice v8 rumble at idle but i want some beefy v8 sound when i stepp on it. So my 2 options I have considered are getting the cacto cat and a dynomax cat-back or my friend's dad owns and exhaust shop and said he'd do it custom for 200 bucks with 2.5 back and 3" chrome tips out. Is this gonna make it sound better?? WHat is the stock ehaust size?? I talked to a kid in my town that has a mustang 3.8 and it just has the dynomax cat back on it and it sounds healthy as hell. So whats the best option to get loudness but not raspiness like a glasspack or anything.
Thanks for your help,
Derek Johnson

2.5 inch pipe and 3 inch tips is fine. What muffler do you have right now? Like most people here, i suggest just getting the dynomax cat back with a high flow cat.

Mods: Hpertech chip and powerstat, MSD 6A-L, Crane fireball coil, Accel Cap and Rotor, Dynomax hi-flow cat and catback system with a dynomax magnum race bullet muffler on the i-pipe, K&N filterchargers, Gutted Air Boxes, 8mm Wires, Eibach Sportlines and Tokiko springs/shocks setup, Global west sub frames, Suspension techniqs front and rear sway bars, and good ole 88 IROC wheels with Kumo Ecstas on em!

The dynomax exhaust (#17493) uses 2.5" pipes all around, and Summit wants $150 for it...

I think the stock exhaust is 2". I had 2" chrome tips on my stock exhaust, and they slid right over the stock tailpipes. As to exhaust tips, if they're larger than the exhaust pipe size, it doesn't matter...

i have a hooker aero-chamber and love it. and i got the exhaust done custom 2.5" from the cat back and it was done beautifully. nice mandrell bends and welded together. the install and stainless steel custom piping job cost be 250. and the muffler was 79.00. sounds great, looks great, flows great.

I love my dynomax cat back. For the price you can't beat it... Soundwise it is not bad. When I ran monza big bore tips it sounded nice at idle....
