Get Engine Running It's Best.. What Do I Do??

O.K... I have a 91 RS 3.1L V6. I want to make sure everything runs perfectly before I start spending all my money redoing my interior. So far I have replaced Battery, Air Filter, Oil, Oil Filter, Radiator Hoses, PCV Valve, Thermostat (getting a 180º one tho) Drained radiator, refilled with new antifreeze. I bought a fuel pump but me and my dad haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I'm just wondering what else I should do to get it running it really good shape. I have no idea what has been replaced before I got the car and that was in the beginning of May. I do know that we just replaced the master cylinder and now when I put on the brakes and I come to a stop I hear this weird rattling sound coming from under the hood. When I press REALLY hard on the brakes it goes away... I have no idea. But what else should I do to get my car running really smooth?
Thanks

well, you can check the filter on the evap canister, thats something that gets overlooked, im not sure how much of a pick up you get from doing it since i have yet to do it, but hey thats one.

TUNE-UP if it hasn't been done yet .Sparkplugs , wires , cap and rotar ,COIL - change it , it if hasn't been changed in awhile .Don't let it leave you stranded on the interstate like me Id even check your tranny fluid or change it .I recently did that b/c my car was shaking in 3rd gear , not only did it stop the shaking but it made it a little faster and it just feels better . My first tune-up after I got the car in 95 FELT REAL GOOD , MADE IT MUCH FASTER and I was like Oh and one more thing , fuel filter ,people always look over that . :P Wayne

Thanks a lot guys. I have NO idea when the last tune up was done on it but I think I'll go ahead and start doing all this stuff. I have the fuel pump... just haven't put it in yet. You think I'll notice a difference with it on or will it just be safer with a new one?

if the fuel filter is pretty dirty or clogged ans hasn't been changed in a long time, you will get better gas mileage and better acceleration at higher speeds, plus a smoother acceleration.

I dont think you will really notice a change with the fuelpump . I think its one of those things , its either working or not . I have heard its best not to drive around wtih a real low tank of gas b/c it cuts down on the life ot it . I have 180k miles on my car with the same fuelpump and I very seldom ride around real low .Just thought Id give you that tip .But I would say a tune-up is the #1 along with regular oil changes .I dont think the emmission canister filter really makes any difference .(Not to shoot down your ideau 87 camaro) b/c it does help with your car not stinking when your at idle )I tried to get one for mine awile back and had to go to the gm dealership to get one so I didnt worry about it .My car still runs like a bat out of hell with the same filter I dont know if its ever been changed lol ......Wayne

The shaking when you're barely pushing the brakes is probably because your rotors are warped. I driven tons of cars with their rotors warped. I will put money on it!
you can drive around with warped rotors a LONG time without it hurting anything but it's just sooo much nicer when you don't feel the SHAKING!!!

Replacing the Evap. filter just extends the life of the purge valve.

If the valve fails you can get realy strange idle problems that are hard to trace.

"How to do a major tuneup" post: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/002189.html

Did you buy a new fuel pump or fuel filter? Fuel pumps do "start to go"... you can tell by putting a fuel pressure gauge on the Shraeder valve at the back of the fuel rail (under the spider-looking plenum). After 2 pumps, I've avowed to check fuel pressure at every tuneup...
