Sputtering engine problem

My 1985 Camaro Sport Coupe 2.8L V6 MPFI car drives pretty smoothly with only 52k miles on it aside from my recent sputtering of the engine problem. It muffles and sputters then the little fuel light on my dash panel comes on and the car stalls. I have to put the car in park, turn the car off, back on, then put it in drive and quickly continue down the road. It really only seems to do it when I apply my brakes really hard on an incline, although it's done it in leveled parking lots as well. It's been happening more frequently which has me wondering what this could be? At first I figured it was a fuel filter that was shot so I got that replaced to no avail. The problem still persists. Any help is appreciated. Thanks fellas!

Re: Sputtering engine problem

if a car dies when you hit the brakes, its always a vacuum leak. the power brakes will suck the life out of a engine.

Re: Sputtering engine problem

I'd have to say it's the breaks religiously, in all honesty. It's happened a few times before when just idling so I can't say how credible the breaks theory is.

That's my statement about the breaks ofc, I'm not putting you on the spot or anything.
