Re: 3.1 Timing problem

For the timing on your car....

Start up the car and warm it up as normal.

Next, shut the engine off, and then disconnect the Electronic Spark Control (ESC) wire, its near the heater/blower box on the passenger side firewall. It is a one wire pig tail connector.

Then hook up your timing light. Start the car and point that thing down at the harmonic balancer. You will see the notch and hopefully its arround 10* timing btdc. If not then you have to loosen up your distributor hold down bolt a bit and turn the dizzy to get the timing to 10 BTDC degrees. If your car is basically stock and hasent had the ecm tuned, try to dial that timing around 10-12* 10 is preferable.

Once you got the timing where you want. Shut the car off, hook that ESC one wire pig tail back together, and your good to go. (I usually unhook the neg. bat terminal for 1 minuet once im done adjusting the timing. This is just to reset the ecm and any codes that may have been thrown)

Anytime you check your timing in the future always disconnect that ESC wire to get a true timing, and make sure your car is already warmed up and idling normally for the best true readings.
