Stock tune on a stock 2.8/3.1L vs a aftermarket tune.
I have a question for you all that have tuned you stock car before. I would post this on the ecm or aftermarket vendors forum but its not a vendor on here, and its V6 specific.
This is just bugging me but. A vendor on a facebook page, I wont say who, says that his tune on a stock 2.8 3.1L thirdgen will gain 16-20 Hp over stock. This is with stock parts...exc. So a 20HP gain just from the tune.
Does anyone else think this is just not right.
Yes i believe that a good solid tune will net some Hp on a stock car. But never 20 Hp on our engines.
Any insite on this matter? I asked the guy for a dyno sheet, as i was being respectful, but I have yet to see one from him.
I'm no expert on this matter by far, but I also believe that over exaggerating marketing is no a good ethic to have and honestly, it just bothers me.
I swear that someone dynoed a 2.8 or 3.1L before on here and had video of it, possibly project89?

Sounds far-fetched to me. There's just no way the stock tune is that bad. Usually they run a bit richer than necessary at WOT so there's some power to be had by leaning out a bit. But I don't think 20 hp.

its possible , i saw awsome gains going from a stock ecm to a megasquirt tuned by me
rob/streetlethal was there when we first tuned my car , it ran so much better and much better throttle responce acceleration/power versus the stock tune , on that 2.8
the stock tune is very rich , and conservative on timing , u have to rember it was tuned for emissions not power
fast ive been meaning to pm ya any chance u can do a simple tune mod for me for a tbi truck , i need some check engines codes deleted and nothing else
just removing the smog pump since the truck is getting a stock replacement crate engine and has no cat , and dont want it to throw check engine light all the time

No way there's 20 HP on the table to be found simply by swapping in a different chip when it comes to the gen1 2.8/3.1.
2HP, yeah, 4, possibly, 5, maybe, but even at 5 HP, that's a lot to pull out with a simple tune.

There is perceived HP to be gained. My car all stock when I got it, ran great cold but as it warmed up, hot drive home in traffic after work, warmer it got, the more n more sluggish it got.
The chip could do nothing but make the engine stay under 200f, and you would surely perceive you had 20more HP as the engine stays crisp and responsive.
