Thought I'd add I think it is not oil change related , I remember having difficulty starting literally just before hand. It cranks forever but dosnt even try. Then fires. I can here the fuel pump working .
faulty clutch switch ? maybe I should check quick.

Re: What did you do to your v6 today ?
So, not what i did today but the last week. I finally installed the S-15 trans in the firebird after 9 months. Drove it 2 1/2 states (365) miles home and all is back to normal so far so good. Now i have to go replace the thermostat.
Let the fun begin!
New torque converter !
S-15 trans 40k miles changed tail housing, detent cable and mount.
Installed!!
If you ever have to change the detent ( kick down cable).
kinda like the lowered rear look when it's up.
After install and drove 365 miles home. i'd say it works!

My noisey rocker seems to be the rocker sitting against the pcv chamber on the rocker cover , there's a wear mark on it !

Drove to the shop with a busted clutch master. Cyclinder , very tricky, clutch re engages if I keep my foot down so I have to pop it out of gear and lift my foot each time. Interesting !
Also started on a new intake design since I have two broken upper manifolds , I will get one of them fixed ......

Bought this gem about a week ago, couldn't refuse the price + it has a electronic dash! Finished putting in the tranny, reverse let go.
Not a fun job replacing the tranny on the floor -_-'
Few more things to do b4 its road worthy but I'll get there soon. 88 bird

Took it to the first car show this season, Wilson Barn Show in Livonia MI. Sorry no pics, forgot to take the camera. Besides, it was raining. But still, first show! Several people looked, and a few remarked how they haven't seen a V6 Camaro in years.

Re: What did you do to your v6 today ?
Well ever since i put in the used trans i have had trans overheating problems. Replaced shaft seal, trans lines, radiator, thermostat and housing, new fan motor, all cooling sensors and relays, deleted a/c condenser, and added external trans cooler ( later today ). Hopefully this will fix the issue. Have not started it since new radiator.

Was that meant to say trans overheating problems? How do you know when your transmission is cooking ? In my manual it's fairly obvious but I'm doing the changes , just wondered.

New here but i recently threw on some pace setter headers on my v6 (2.8). Straight piped it all the way back and since money was short, and because I didn’t want to wait for a glass pack to come in the mail i just threw on a magna flow rumble exhaust for the time being

Hi there,
I replaced the fuel injectors with Southbay ones. Now it bucks and sneezes and farts and hesitates. Worse than before. And strong smell of fuel. It started to do some of this before I replaced the injectors (which is why I replaced them!)
I can't find any leaks, but strong fuel odor when idling, and really poor gas mileage. Can anyone give me some pointers to look for?

Re: What did you do to your v6 today ?
Thanks I'll try disconnecting the battery and see if it runs any better. I just got the injectors in a couple days ago, not much driving since then, so I don't know every scenario when it runs bad. I get error codes for EGR and A.I.R. but... I removed those! So no surprise I get error codes for them.
MAF is new, and yes it was causing cold-start problems before, but that has been cured.
I will report back after trying the battery.

Re: What did you do to your v6 today ?
well, disconnected the battery for and hour, connected it, and... no change. Still idles rough. then...
SUCCESS!!!
I was looking for fuel leaks or puddling fuel, because it still stank, when I noticed one of the spark plug wires (high tension leads to you, zs&tas) was touching the header. I thought, maybe it's sending the spark to ground. Same wire also touched another wire. So I got a couple zip ties and a leftover plastic wire loom, and Got the wires to stop touching and rubbing. Took it for a test drive, and BINGO! idles smooth, plenty of power, no hesitation and snorting, and no more fuel smell. Probably because it is burning properly.
Thanks for the tip, zs&tas, if I hadn't been snooping around in there, I might not have spotted the wiring problem. Cheap Skate is back to being fun to drive. Time to take the kids for a cruise and find some lunch.

I can tell by the sound the trans makes when you first move. Usually a higher pitch sound. In other news trans not overheating anymore because its garbage. lasted a whole 3 months. So found another used one....putting #3 in this week. Oh and broke my door handle again....I'll update when it's done.

Re: What did you do to your v6 today ?
Hi there,
Drove my car again tonight. Purring nicely, good tunes on the radio, nice temperature outside. Can it get any better? Yes!
I was driving down the main road to work, timing the lights just right so I hit all green lights, when this Caddy comes up behind me. He wanted in the fast lane, where I was, and was zig-zagging through traffic to beat me. He finally got ahead of me, but didn't time the light. He hit the brakes to stop at the red light, while I held back a little, and blew through the green light. Boy was he mad! I could HEAR him coming up behind me, and he was zig-zagging through traffic again, trying to blow my doors off. He finally got by me, and as I watched his taillights, i think it was a CTS-V, basically a four-door Corvette, I thought, that guy paid more for his TIRES than I paid for the whole car!
That put a big smile on my face.

Lost one of the alternator bracket bolts apparently. No idea what should be in there either, and I'm in the UK so finding one is going to be a nightmare! Can't run the car until its fixed as its shredding the belt
