Scored some NOS Ronal R15's

I posted an update on my Formula 350 thread in "Auto Detailing and Appearance", but thought this may be some helpful info for anyone considering getting these or if you already have them.

These are NOS wheels from the 2nd run in 2002. Came in original boxes with accessories and paperwork.

The spacer provided was more generic than the one that is offered by Hawks and others, Also it is 8mm instead of 1/4 inch. I got some hubcentric rings off ebay seperately. With a little machining, they fit on the spacer, to make it fit snug against the wheel hub. Longer lug nuts were used (came with the rims) on the fronts.

I am running BFG Sport Comp 2's, 275/40/17's. The car was driven after install, and the tie rods do not rub. Nothing suspension wise interfers. The wheel can be turned fully both ways and do not contact the fender wells.

My Formula is stock, non 1LE brakes on front, stock suspension.

I seen some of your updates on FB regarding the spacer issue. What material is that green ring made of?

Is that anti-seize on your studs?

Some FAT 5 Bars. I like them fatties. Would you mind posting some side pictures as well? Maybe even some of the wheel fully locked left or right, give us a nice stance ;P ;P

Clean and simple, the way I like it. Good taste, great score.

Re: Scored some NOS Ronal R15's

You didn't get the spacers that Ronal sold with the wheels, just an FYI. I also bought a second set in the run in 2002 and I got the real/correct spacers. As far as I know Hawks does not provide the real/correct spacer with their replacement wheels either. I offered my real spacer for design but they wanted to keep it for "design", some BS, and I wasn't going to let them keep/destroy it

So enlightened me with some photos, what does the "real" spacer look like? I honestly believe that the seller I got these from, had everything in the boxes when he ordered them in 2002. Doubt he would have used the spacers and not anything else.

I just went down and looked at my Ronals, the spacers are not with the wheels. I have so much stuff I may have lost them in the house, or I may have lent them to a friend. I don't need the spacers since I have brakes with a hat, so they are essentially my spacers.

I will keep an eye out for them, but essentially they are flat spacers, but they had a machined ring in the center that went into the centering ring space, so the spacer would stay centered in the wheel perfectly, and then the green centering ring would mount inside the spacer. I seem to remember them only being 5 hole too, but I could be wrong.

Thanks scooter for the info. I contacted the seller and this was his response:

The spaces shipped with the ronal wheels are the original ones I revived from Ronal when I bought the wheels. The wheels are from the first run that Ronal did after SLP stopped selling them. Interesting point. I tried to buy the wheels from SLP back in the mid 90s when they were selling them from there parts catalog (red window color). Unfortunately SLP had a warehouse fire and all of there R15 wheel inventory was destroyed.

At this point, as long as the spacers I have work out (which they seem to so far), I am happy. I found this picture on the internet-is this what your spacer looked like?

Re: Scored some NOS Ronal R15's

Maybe I'm missing something. What's the big deal with these spacers and whether Ronal originally used a particular design or not?

No big deal, just trying to confirm what they sent with the original purchase. Apparently, they sent different types.

Re: Scored some NOS Ronal R15's

For some reason I can't get the picture to open, but the thumb is too small to figure out.

The problem with those spacers is that it won't keep the wheel hub-centric as intended, unless the centering ring goes through that spacer too.

I'd never apply anti-seize to studs. And 85 lb-ft torque, on an aluminum wheel? Seems light

Re: Scored some NOS Ronal R15's

85 lb-ft is correct for 12 mm stud used on the years of vehicles that had the R15 wheels.

Lubricating wheels studs is a big no-no.

85 lb-ft was on the original Ronal sheet that came with the rims. I never lubricated the studs. Was like that when I bought the car in 2013. I will remove the wheels and try and wipe it off before spring driving season. Thanks for the heads up.😃

I’m looking for the longer front lug nuts but I don’t know what they look like. Do you have any pics?
