Best summer/performance tire for stock IROCs

My IROC needs new tires for the new engine I have in it (383). I have the stock rear end with 3:73 gears and do not need a tire that will help assist in breaking the rear end.

What is a good tire for street performance? This car is only driven in the summer.

Thanks in advance.

Bfgoodrich comp2 hands down best in the 245/45-16 size don't get the all season version however. And if you track or autocross it either need to shave them or do like I am and going to a track only tire for on track days

They don't come in 245/50/16.

I think 225 is the largest 16" size they come in.

If you're all about cornering over looks, and willing to replace them every spring, the Toyo Proxes R888 is a DOT tire with enough tread for rain, sticks like glue, and is offered in a 245/45R16. Since TR is the sponsor, here's a link to their page: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

For street, definitely the BFG sport comp 2. I had these until I got my Toyo R888's. Ran 245/50R16 up front, 255/50R16 in the rear. Looked good, couldn't really tell they were different sizes.

If you plan to autoX or try an HPDE, like Jeremy said, Toyo R888's. I used 255/50R16 but the 245/45R16 would also work well. I've heard Nitto NT01 which comes in 245/50R16 is made by the same parent company and is the same compound as the Toyos.

Didn't know that, seems like good info, thanks!
The 245/45 will lower the CG, reduce drag, improve brake leverage and make the gearing a hair more aggressive, plus theoretically keep just as much tread width on the road as a 255/50, especially during dynamic transitions, if I understand it correctly.
Edit: the 245/45 R888s show a tread width of 9.4, while the 255/50 shows 8.5. I could believe that, but I could equally believe it to be an error. If correct, then the 255/50 is more of a 235/55

Here's a pic of my car with the 255 Toyos on (4thgen rear) and my BFG sport comp 2 (should be a255 but might be a 245, I can't remember now) next to the 255 toyo.

I'm running 245/50 - 16 Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals on my Formula, and they're working great.
Prior to this, I was running Fuzion ZRi's (now discontinued), and they are the exact same tire (tread pattern/compound is identical). Those lasted me about 5 years on the street.

I have the same. Great performance, very nice driving tires. Looks are a bit lacking in my opinion - the tread is a bit too stylized and the sidewall has way to much detailing embossed on it. The Firestone sidewall is also more rounded than the Good Years seem to be, lending the tire more of a "donut" look. This is all subjective stuff, though.

I really wanted Good Year Eagle F1 GS-D3s, but they weren't available at the time. If I were buying today, I'd probably try the BFGs over the Firestones.

I ran the BFG's, my friend got the Firehawks on his IROC. Both tires seem to be on the same level. I'd buy the BFG'S again, I think they have a better tread pattern, and I'm a fan of their tires. Doesn't help Firestone that I'm old enough to remember when they had that huge recall on those SUV tires because they'd blowout and cause a roll over.
