Whats left for a good 245/50/16 tire?
Long story short after 10 years I'm getting my cars back on the road, but I see tire choices are almost nil anymore.
So what are you running? Pros/cons?

BFG comp2 is the best tire you will find in 245/50/16 for the street. Very good in the rain with good grip. If you are looking for a street tire, they are a no brainer.
You can find NT01s at stock size, however they're not really well suited for the street. (poor life and wet performance)
If you want more options you can play with sizing 255/50/16 will let you get into some higher end toyos, including a street/strip radial.
225/50/16 has almost every popular performance tire available. With either case you are slightly changing overall diameter but it isn't enough that you'll run into issues other than a 1-2 mph offset on your speedo.
I run a bit of hpde with my car. I haven't found a way to get the comp2s to handle the heat on the circuit. Ill be coming down to 225/50/16 Falken rtk615+ next weekend, im hoping the compound and slight stretch will help the sidewall handle the heavy car. Added bonus is they are cheaper than the stock sized comp2.

Incorrect - 225-50-16 is about 1" shorter than the stock 245-50-16. 225-55-16 is the correct swap out size for the OEM 245-50-16 size.
You will not get a stretch with a 225 width tire on an 8" wide wheel - it makes it look more square, but the section width is actually about 9", so in terms of optimum tire width to wheel width; it is about perfect.
615K is a great tire - have a set of 275-40-17s on a set of CTW Motorsports wheels and it was a monster improvement over the OEM 16".

Only problem I see with 225/55/16 is that the tires available don't seem to be much better than the comp2s. I know tires vary with carcass design and further up the performance scale usually has tougher sidewalls. Maybe being on the square side vs pinched will make all the difference and I'll come back to the BFGs, I don't know. With the exception of strut tower mounts and bar plus chassis reinforcement the car has stock suspension. I even still have the stock torque arm pickup on my T5...
The goal with my car is to learn with it and keep it reliable and ensure it survives the process. I want to stay within the realm of bolt ons to allow me to revert to stock down the road. I'm limiting myself to street tires because I'm concerned with the extra loading a semi slick will cause. Also less money on parts = more track time
I'd love to improve the potential of the car with new suspension and wheels but for now I'm going to focus on refining the limit.

Tire Rack lists eight: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...earDiameter=17
BFG (2 tires)
Riken
Cooper
Uniroyal
General
Kumho
Hankook
Other name brands list that size:
Nitto (2 tires)
Toyo
Federal
Falken
And several "off" brands list that size.
Overall, seems like a lot more available now than there have been in recent years.

Re: Whats left for a good 245/50/16 tire?
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money.. The previous owner put Doral SDL-A 245/50/16 on my IROC right before he shipped it because that was part of the deal the car had to be up to code and 100% driveable..
I planned on changing the tires when I saw the name I was like, “What the hell is that company” and saw they sold online for $80/tire..
Fast forward 3 years and I’m surprisingly extremely happy with the tires.. They feel great, grip great, get very high ratings on dry, wet, snow, noise, etc.. They are quiet and ride nice.. They hold nice on turns.. I don’t do any extreme driving, but they are so good it seems a shame to swap them out just to have a more expensive name on the rubber:
Found out they’re actually made by Sumitomo

Necro thread time.
I did go with the BFG's for the 91. I never took it out in the rain so I can't comment on that.
I have put a few miles on them in dry and warm and they ride ok on back roads and highway. The only thing is with the manual trans they do squeal a bit and are not hard to break loose with even a slight clutch pop.
So I'm not sure if I put them on my IROC I will be getting back on the road new year.
Anyone have experance with Riken Raptor ZR A/S's?
