Gale Banks car I found online

These wheels were on the Trans Am I recently sold when I got the car, and can’t seem to find much info on them other than that Porsche’s wearing a similar looking wheel. Then I ran across this Banks car online and noticed they looked the same. Anyone know anything about these wheels? They are 16”. The guy I bought the car from said he had a person offer him $2000 for them, is that crazy out of line or close? Like a woman with shoes, I found another set of wheels I’m interested in and considering selling these. However I think these are cool looking wheels and would look good on my Formula. Anyone that has info I would love to know more about these!

Re: Centerline/Banks Anyone familiar with or know what these wheels are?

I think they're a Centerline rim from back in the mid-'80s when 'billet-anything' was all the rage. I tried Tineye and Google Image searches but neither turned up any proof. IIRC, those wheels were relatively expensive when new, but $2000 for 4 used rims today sounds really high to me for a wheel that was pretty common at one time.

Of course, anything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.................

Well I think that’s what was the case if the guy was offered $2000, someone wanted them bad. Lol. They are in good shape, I’ve seen some on Fiero’s before. Part of what drew me in with the car, as I figured they would look good on my 91 Formula as well as “period correct” so to speak. Just thought they were odd as I’ve not seen them too many times, and not much luck with google other than anything related to Porsche.

Re: Centerline/Banks Anyone familiar with or know what these wheels are?

I have the old Car & Driver mags from that build. Back in the day Gale's car was nuts, it's a beast by todays numbers even : 611hp, 595 lbs-ft, 13.3 @ 122mph on it's way to 204mph top speed.
The rims are 16 x 9 Centerline part # X690-547-58
Now in the 3rd part of the 3 part issue article, they also call them 16x9 Gotti modular aluminum

They paid $215.00 / wheel back in the article
Went with P255/50VR-16 Eagle tires at $249.85 / tire too

Buddy thank you so much!! This is awesome to have this info, I appreciate it. And yes you would be correct that car would be nuts by today’s standards. I would be interested to know more about the car as well! I was not aware if these were 8 wide or not, I will investigate that further, as I had been planning on 255/50/16 regardless. They have 245/45/16 on them currently but tires are shot. Too bad they have almost new tread

Your gonna be limited in tires that size, for street anyway. At least it is a decent choice..https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Re: Centerline/Banks Anyone familiar with or know what these wheels are?

Those are centerline 928 wheels from the late 80s. I know because when I bought my 88 IROC new in 87, the first thing I did was buy a polished set of these wheels. I loved the look and kept them for nearly 25 years.
