I have Dakota Digital Problems

I have hooked it up and I am getting no signal to the speedometer. It won't budge and the SES light is on for no VSS signal.

I have 6 wires in front of me.

12V acc wire - To PWR. on DD Box
Ground - To GND. on DD Box
Wire A from VSS - To Sig In on DD box
Wire B from VSS - To ???
Wire A to ECM/Speedo - To OUT 4 on DD Box
Wire B to ECM/Speedo - To ???

Power and Ground are obvious. I have checked and I do have power to the box when the key is on.

VSS wires. I have done a search here and read that people are cutting one wire, running the VSS side to the input and the ECM side to one of the outputs. In my diagram above, that would be wiring the two "B" wires together. I tried that. No speedometer signal.

In the destructions, it reads: Run one of the two VSS wires to the input and the other to the ground with the other ground wire used to power the box. It then says run one of the ECM side wires to one of the outputs, but never says what to do with the other wire on the ECM side.

Disconnected I get no signal to the speedometer. I even tried to run it into the ground with the other two ground wires. Still no speed signal.

Since Dakota Digital's instructions suck and they are closed for the weekend, can anyone tell me the proper way to wire this damn thing?

I don't know but i bought one a month or a few ago and it was DOA as far as i can tell. Never got it to do anything but make my speedo twitch, now it won't do that. Haven't had time / kept forgetting to call hem bastards...

Everything is pointing towards a bad box. I have been f***ing with this thing for 3 hours now.

I wired the VSS back to the ECM totally bypassing the DD Box. the speedometer is getting a signal. It reads 150 @ about 10 MPH. Definatelly a big difference in pulse signals.

The DD Box is getting power also.

I'm beginning to think this is an $85 little piece of ****.

I am 100% sure that my box was bad when i got it. I even went so far as to put my *** in the air and leave it idling turning the wheels just so i coudl sit shotgun and try every which way of connecting the wires to see if i could make it produce a usable signal. No dice.

Wire B from VSS - To ???
Wire A to ECM/Speedo - To OUT 4 on DD Box
Wire B to ECM/Speedo - To ???
Try these:
wire B from VSS - To GROUND
wire A to ECM/Speedo - To OUT 3 on DD box
wire B to ECM/speedo - To GROUND

That did it! :hail:

The destructions specify OUT 4 for TPI ECMs and OUT 3 for aftermarket speedometers.

As long as it works now. F*** it!

I got it as close as I can by feel. I now just need someone to follow me and see how close I am.

Thanks dude!
