hooking up ford 9 in

hi
i recieved my ford 9 in last wednesday.i have 2 questions about it.
my old rearend was a 9 bolt with disc brakes.this car is mostly strip now.
1. how do i go about hooking up the parking brakes cable to the drum brakes , will a stock e-brake cable for drum brakes(instead of disc) work?(im thinking of not using one, crazy as that seems)
2 should i use rear sway bar or not ?(the stock bar doesnt look like its going to fit)

I don't know if im bringing back up and old post but here is an answer to one of your questions, spohn sells a stock swaybar kit for the aftermarket rearend. You just have to specify if you need the 3.00" diameter or the 3.25". If its an early ford 9"(before 2002) its the latter of the sizes.

About the drum break question, I NEED HELP WITH THAT!!!

How do you hook up factory third gen (drum) emergency brake cables to the ford 9" drum brakes? It's almost like there is no lever there to hook it up to. Suggestion PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strip only? What's a park brake? When I installed my 9" I use the Ford large drum brakes. No park brake stuff anywhere. If the park pawl doesn't hold the car when I put it in park, it's time to rip the tranny out and fix the problem. I don't need extra stuff that adds weight and might cause a problem at the track.

Ya this is an old thread

ya, thought it might be old. I have a 5spd, not an auto tranny so it sucks to not have a parking break. I once only put a car into 1rst gear(manual tranny) and i went inside my house to eat some pizza. When I came out, i was like, wtf is my car!? So.. I looked down my driveway to find the car in a tree. I want an E-Brake! And btw, that car was a civic thank ***.

wow a response to an old question of mine

i fixed my problem with the sway bar.I used the stock rear sway bar and had some swaybar mounts fabricated.

I didnt hook up my ebrake( more correctly called parking brake).
parking brake dont really slow car fast enough, if at all,in a emergency case(it would help but not enough).

if i were u id forget about parking brake hook up , leave it in gear and call it a day.

dave

ps is that lift yours?? if so u are very lucky.

ford parking brake consisted of a arm with a pivot point to which it was connected to a bar that connected both brake shoes.it kinda hard to explain , id suggest going to a junkyard or friend who has econoline van,old crown vic, town car etc. and sneak a peek.Looking at those pictures those drum brake setup looks more like gm setup.
