Forget the Z03 option. What about that 350 TPI 5 speed option

Yes the headlight buckets should be black. So you can definitely say that ATLEAST the front end was repainted. Why would someone repaint the front end of a car with 18,000 miles? Accident most likely. Even if it doesnt show up on a carfax report there is a high probability that that car was in a wreck...unless hes got an amazing answer as to why the front end was repainted incorrectly.

And the grill on white heritages is supposed to be white--not black-- so thats correct.

The grill is right.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the headlight buckets as being wrong. To be honest I would say it looks better with them white. Black would look out of place since it doesn't have black hood louvers, or a black grill... Would be kind of silly for GM to paint the headlight buckets back when the rest of the car is single tone.

Listen man, not to sound like a *****, but i think i would know. I own a white/red heritage and hav edone extensive reading on them. They came with black headlight buckets:

Also, i ran the VIN and saw that its only a 305 (as we all suspected being that it was a 5speed)--not 350. So if they're lying abotu the engine than i wouldnt trust them.

The parking lights appear to be amber. Mine are clear and the other heritage cars are clear. This also might indicate a repair.

As far as the seller saying that it has a 350, a lot of people make that mistake for some reason. I don't think they do it on purpose. I have seen some emission stickers under the hood of 5.0 cars list 5.7 liter, I think that is how a lot of people get confused.

I really like the 5k redline on the tach and the 140 mph speedo!

I missed the redline but I wonderd why the 305 car had the 140 Speedo, I assumed it was triggerd by the G92 or T5.

I believe the g92 option adds the 5k tach and the 140 mph speedo. Mine has the mm5 (5 speed) but I didn't get the super dooper tach and speedo.

I think the g92 also adds the l98 cam to the lb9. The cam adds about 25 hp the the stock 205 hp.

The emissions sticker says 5.7, however the RPO lists an LB9, no 8 in the VIN either.

I would say either a repaint or accident.

Totally bogus.

Listen man, not to sound like a *****, but i think i would know.
I didn't say you were wrong, I just stated that it would be worth looking into. 92's in general are notorious for breaking the mold. Lots of things were done in the interest of getting cars completed and out the door. Maybe the guy painting headlight buckets that day had a hot date that night and left a couple minutes early and the car slipped by without the black. Maybe the car was bumped on the carrier in shipment and the dealership repainted the front bumper. Maybe the original owner took delivery and thought it looked gay with black buckets. Anyway just because they aren't black doesn't mean the car is garbage.

If I had a nickel for everytime I saw a thirdgen for sale that said it was a 350 I'd be a rich man. Every salesman looks at the engine and says "yep, its a 350". Most don't know and don't care about rpo codes or the vin number, they just want to sell the car.

People like to nitpick cars on Ebay, been there and done that, but really I don't see the point. As if anyone here was ever going to bid on it anyway. I guess it just makes everyone feel better about their own personal fbody when they can find problems with one they'll never be able to obtain.

Also I can't believe you guys are going after this car/auction looking for faults when its obvious from the layout of the auction that the seller isn't even the owner, or if they are that its a car lot.

Also note the disclaimer:
This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgement solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle.
If anyone is truly concerned about whether the headlight buckets should be black, all they have to do is check an order form or a piece of promotional literature from 1992 for the Camaro and see for themselves what it says. But even then sometimes the printed literature isn't correct compared with actual production vehicles.

I was going to but I decided to buy a LS1 Z28 locally instead.

Yea, that car is a whole lot different than mine... if I were to pull the turbo, put the 305 back in, loose the 1LE, auto trans, 3.27 rear rear and repaint the front end

Interesting that this is in the fine print also...

The left front fender has been repainted to factory specs and is undetectable.
It would be interesting to see what the actual owner of the car would have to say. At the very least someone went through the trouble to get an emissions label specifying the 5.7, and the rear bumper badge for a 5.7. Probably someone that was tired of getting picked on for his 5.0.

The turn signals appear amber, because they have amber bulbs.

Don't be silly... you don't need to repaint the entire front end, I've got some white krylon down in the garage, we can fix that up in a giffy.

Do you want me to nitpick your car? Cause I could if you would like.

All I'm saying is that it's all pretty pointless and it gets old. Someone wanted to badge it as a 350, big deal. So its a 305TPI/5spd instead of a 350... its a 5spd which almost makes up for the 305. The listing on ebay wasn't even created by someone who knows anything about the car. They saw the badging and looked it over and made a listing to get it out there so people could bid on it. They probably don't know its not a 350 and they probably don't care.

The fact remains that overall even in spite of the flaws, it doesn't look that bad. The reality is that its probably worth more as a 305 5spd then if it were a 350.

You guys all take this way too seriously.

Agreed (on the 5 speed part and yea I take stuff too seriously)

I honestly didn't post that to rip the guys car, I really wondered if the buckets could be white on a Z03 car, of course I love how many eBay 3rd gens magically become 350's via Osmosis or something

It's a nice car, but really too bad that it wasn't presented properly. I doubt it was intentionally being misrepresented, but its possible.

I think really I should have said WE take things too seriously...

Here's another Z28/Z03 Heritage and a convertible on top of it.Headlight buckets are black on this one too.But I agree with a special model you'd think these would have been body color.Especially since they went to the trouble of color matching the grill.

Listen thats fine you guys have your opinions that they should be body colored buckets. My opinion however is that i think that no camaro should be without black headlight buckets. I guess Chevrolet sided with people like me on this one because Heritages got black headlight buckets. And although nothing is impossible, it is 99% more probable that the car was hit in the front and repainted than it being a case of a factory/shipment error.

Oh don't get me wrong I like the black headlight buckets on my '83 and I think they look good on any year.I just find it odd they use a body colored grill on the Z03 and stayed with the black headlight buckets.Maybe Chevy's thinking that the black headlight buckets were a Camaro signature(they did carry it over into the 4 Gen's too).

looks like he added a comment at the bottom stating he was wrong and it's a 305.

edit: like someone said above, it wouldnt be the first time a previous owner has screwed someone over by falsifying emissions stickers to say 5.7L.

It also lists the tires as original. The tires that came with my car in 91 only said Goodyear ZR50, not Eagle ZR50. If you save the tire picture as a bmp and invert the colors you can easily read it.
Any 92 Z's out there with the original tires or any original owners, check to see if they say Eagle on them or know if they did? I don't think any factory ZR50's or VR50's said Eagle.

why does everyone talk about it? just contact the guy and confront him about it. I called him up when the bidding was at like 6 and hes asking 16k Though I didn't notice the light buckets, I also ran a carfax and i think there's a report on there? I'm pretty sure there is. Passenger fender hit or something

This sounds like the logical thing to do.

My guess is the guy isnt trying to misrepresent it, ask the questions and I am sure he'll tell ya.

Somehow I doubt he'll be getting 16k for it, especially if it has been hit.

I TOTALLY agree with a mack6 on his headlight bucket vote. Black buckets look great on anything. (Obvioulsy my heritage is gonna have black buckets). I don't care if it's an 87' IROC, 83' Berlinetta, or (like a mack6's) 92 white heritage edition, the black has got to be there. Without it, it looks like a rushed paint job in a way. Like, oops, we can only spend $500 on paint, if we use black buckets its gonna be another $50.....ahhhh just paint it all white. Look, the owner probably scrubbed the front, had to replace it and in his opinion wanted it all white (which isn't factory correct on any color Z03) and may have done a 350 swap. Enough said. The paint is in-correct, as heritage owners, a mack6 and I can confirm this.

i emailed the owner about the headlight pockets.. his reply:

The nose was painted by the second owner because he did not like the black headlight buckets, it is the original front bumper. The left front fender was painted because of a small accident, it is the original front fender. This is a very nice Camaro.

I emailed him back and forth quite a bit when the car was first listed and he bought the car from an estate sale. Told me the same thing, looking for 16, after the auction ended he emailed me and said he'd take 13,800. Hmmmmm, big drop aweful quick. Still wouldn't buy it for that kind of money. More like 10-12 tops. Rather buy a 15k 5.7 black w/red stripes for 13,500 that is almost perfect.

i noticed a few of you mentioned the 350 "issue". my 89 RS had an odd little quirk to it in regards to the emissions sticker. although i know the car was a 305 tbi from the vin, the emissions sticker showed it as a 350 tpi. someone seems to have fallen asleep on the line. i thought maybe the hood/radiator support/etc tagged areas may have been replaced, but the parts had matching numbers.

odd.....
