Overcooling??? - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

My 91' z28 doesnt seem to ever get hotter than about 130-140 degrees. (according to the temp gage.) the car runs a little rich. my buddy had this problem on his mustang and he said he changed the temperture coolant sensor and it fixed the problem... could i be having the same problem? or are ford motor a little different than chevys?? someone please help

that sounds like u dont even have a thermostat working properly if there even is one or it could be using a 160* stat that will mess with the ecm quite a bit....

will a 160 degree thermostat cause overcooling as well as "erratic ideling" and cause a car to run a little rich?

yes it will confuse the ecm making it stay in " warm-up " mode hence making ur car run richer which most likely will cause rough idle and poorer fuel economy if you have one get a hypertech computer chip to change the ecms parameters to run at 160* its the cheapest way or go custom which most people would say or switch back to a 180* or GM 195* for better running conditions

ok cool... i picked up a thermostat from the local dealer and gonna try to change it sometime this week.. im not sure what temp it has now... i just bought the car in feb. (2nd owner)... from a guy in pennsylvania who ran a machine shop... but anyways like you said i think the car is staying in "warm up mode".... ill let you know what happens....
