what is this electrical looking box

Sorry no pictures of it, it came from a 91-92 TBI firebird, this was mounted behind the dash on the passenger side, and no its not the ecm, this is about 1/2 the size of the ecm.

I at first thought it ws the vats decoder but this box is metal like a ecm heres some numbers from it, IT ALSO HAS A SINGLE 24 PIN CONNECTOR ON IT

service number 1228874

Well I found the plug I believe goes to this box, it's at the end of my dash harness and it looks like a ecm plug, however this plugs electrical wires are covered in yelow colored tape. Is this in fact part of the airbag electronics.

and while on airbags since this harness is already setup for it, I noticed when I pulled the harness from the 91 firebird there were two what I believe impact sensors under the center console, if I mounted these and whatever other ones I should be able to have a working airbag in my car right, or is there more involved to the system.

thanx

What you have found there is called the "DERM" or Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module and it is for the AirBag system.
