Over the past week ive been putting together my engine. i order a 268 h-10 cam from comp and with it came a packet of comp assembly lube. it looks like any other assembly lube but the thing im worried about is that its not very thick. i am worried that the lube wont stay on the lobes and it will drip off and make the cam fail during break in.

shall i use the comp lubricant or is there any other assembly lube you guys would prefer over this comp stuff?

It works fine.

Just go ahead and use it.

And, it doesn't even plug up oil filters or accumulate as a pile of sludge in the pan, like the moly we all used to use in days gone by, had a tendency to do.

Yeah, it works fine if the motor isn't going to sit for long before you fire it. If you're building the motor and dropping it in the following weekend then have at it with the red stuff. If the motor is going to sit a while before being fired I prefer the Crane cam lube- grey moly grease lube. It'll stay put on the parts basically forever since it's a grease and won't slowly slide off the parts like the red stuff will.

I'm the nervous type so I prefer to use the Crane stuff.

problem with moly based lubes is they tend to clog filters and small passages. i change the oil and filter within 30 minutes reguardless of what kind of lube i use

I used both in my motor. It has been taking me forever to get it together due to time restraints and money. I was wondering how long is to long to sit before I should worry about firing it up. I still have lot of work to do in the engine bay and what not. i used the green sutff on the main and rod bearing and the molly on the cam and lifters.

i think the green stuff your reffering to is the federal mogul assembly lube? that stuff worked great for my bottom end

my motor is going to be sitting for about a month at the most the cam is installed as of tonight with the comp lube. should i be alright?

ps i can see the lobes through the lifter valley and it looks like a light film is on it

I put the comp stuff on and let it sit for a little over a week (its still sitting) and it seems most of it is now in the pan... so i put some of the thicker moly stuff on...
