| Could adding a CAI cause my car to run hotter? I know the title sounds weird, but I am having a weird problem with my T/A. It's an LT1 swapped 3rd gen, and is totally stock, except for my intake/exhaust setup. I made a custom intake from a kit sold at pepboys, and I am wondering if it's causing my car to run hotter than usual. The rubber coupler used to attatch the intake to the TB had no provisions for my IAT sensor, so I poked a small hole in it and jammed the sensor in there. It seems to work great, no vacuum leaks and seems a bit more powerful, however after running it for about 5-10 minutes, the temp starts going up from it's usual place at around 100 degrees to about the 2nd or 3rd mark(small marks, not the larger marks) past 100. I know I am probably overreacting to this increase, as most cars seem to run around 195 degrees, but since I've owned mine it's never gotten past 100 degrees on the gauge. I have a 160 T-stat, and a 15'' fan wired to run as soon as the ignition is cranked. I also noticed the idle increased from around 800rpm to now around 1000rpm, and am wondering if this is due to increased airflow.BTW, the intake is 4'' from the filter to the TB, so I assume it's getting more airflow than my old 1LE elbow and K&N setup. It's a short ram intake as well. I am just wondering if this is a normal occurance when using a short ram intake that has no access to cold air, since I have a nostril style hood, and no grille (1990 model). Any answers/help/input/ideas would be great. Thanks so much for taking time to read this. I appreciate it. | | | |
