Just noticed this is another Zombie thread
Depends on how you looked at it, Over the years, $30k easily, many parts have been swapped over the years with other projects and such though,
so to add up how much has been spent on whats there now, probably closer to $15-20k
It adds up real quick.

car $1300
money spent on 350 that was in it $700
Body (painted the car myself) $3000
5.3/4l60e swap $4500
6.0 swap $1200
Exhaust $300
Suspension $400
Audio $500
Tires $500
Countless hours $00
Total $12,400
I would tack another 2k on there and still feel like i have spent way more than that on the car.
I haven't even touched the interior, rearend, or done any mods to the engine or transmission.
But damn does that 6.0 pull like a ****.

87 Bird: Paid $1000 (and NOT happy about the way it was when I bought it for that price), probably (guesstimating here) around $4K dropped into it. Got about $600 back in parts and what was paid for it as scrap.
88 IROC: Paid $900. Put most of the parts that were going to go into the 87 into it. So, with the exception of the body parts, I'd guess around $7500. Needs more to go into it, but not more than a couple hundred before the usual state fees
. Provided I don't find out that I need to replace something else that was perfectly good when removed from the other car

It was my dad's back in the day, he parked it in the early 90's and drove it a little every few years or so. I fell in love with the thing before I was old enough to remember. I got it at the end of my senior year of HS a couple months before I turned 18. It's been 3 years last month, and two of those were daily driven. I've driven hundreds of cars at the tire shop I work at but there's nothing like a third gen... I still get that same feeling and that stupid smile I couldn't have smacked off of my face when I get a little crazy in it all these years after that first ride as a child.
Mods in sig + A/C conversion to 134a + ball joints + 2 sets of 15" tires + carb rebuild + starter + head light motor kit + headliner reupholstery + used SS wheels with decent tires. = about $3900
All done on my own coin working part time and going to school, most of the work done myself. I don't regret any of it, it's the first car and it'll be the last car I own.
The only thing that I do kind of regret is that after everything it's still automatic and it still probably couldn't break out of the 10's in the 1/8th...

looking to keep it almost stock, for my son who is 2yo right now

I bought mine for $300 from my brother.
I spent
$42 new headlamps
$200 C5 corvette rims
$48 autocross numbers
$74 wonder bar
$240 wilwood calipers
$50 Imitation Momo steering wheel
$70 wheel adapters
That's $1024 and I don't have the tools to make caliper brackets so that could cost quite a few dollars for a shop to do. I still need a few more items and fixes so I can get it road worthy and race ready.

Wow, If I had to put a number on it, I'd probably have a nervous breakdown. Bought the car with no motor or trans from a junkyard 13 years ago for $1,000. Bought 3 donor cars over the years, about another 1k. At least another 8k in the past 3 years of the resto in progress (slow going, put cash into it when I have it) And I still have interior and wheels to go. Not counting tires maintainance and other misc things that are mandatory. Easily 10k and it hasn't been driven in 4 years. SOMEONE STOP ME!!!!

Picked my Iroc up for $2250 over three years ago from a used car dealership (guy traded it in on a Mustang so they just wanted it gone). Bought a box of fuses $20, spark plugs were about $20, new wires were around $40, new front tires were about $160 (need replacing again because they dryrotted bad! Only 8k on them too), new alternator free, jy radiator $30, new t-top and hatch weather stripping $300 (not installed yet), head unit $80, new speakers all around $150, and various other jy parts I have picked up over the years about $100 or so.
So I have about $3100 in this thing so far.

Lets see here.
Started with a 97 Chevy Caviler i bought for $350, drove that around for a year.
then traded that for a 97 F-250 light duty. $25 for great stuff foam for rusted out rockers, $25 for fiber hair, $50 for a gallon of primer and a gallon of flat black tractor paint. Drove that for 6 motnths. Then traded it even up in Febuary for the 1983 T/A 5 speed with a 350 swap. So far ive put in : $50 for Junkyard find chrome valve covers, chrome air cleaner, and hatch struts. $60 for exhaust from y-pipe back (my brother works in a auto shop) and $35 for a pawn shop radio. $75 for stock T/A wheels and $60 for 80% tread tires from the junk yard. Thats it so far. This summer paint job for $500 from good friend and body guy, and all new weather stripping this summer sometime too. So for a recap. Basically $450 for the car and $280 in parts so far. Not to bad so far lol. No engine mods planned cause its fast enough for me, and im only 25 lol

Drivetrain: $520
Transmission: $425
Steering & Suspension: $365
Exhaust: $530
Engine parts and machine work: $4,775
More work I just did this winter that I haven't added to the above list:

Speedometer drive/driven gears, aluminum gear housing: $105
Billet alum. pulleys: $85

This thread is in very poor taste. But to each his own I suppose.
First thirdgen - $14000 new off the dealership lot
2nd thirdgen - $2500 used invested another $30k + into it to make it what I wanted
3rd one - $6k to buy, another $20k in paint and parts to make it what the wife wanted.
4th one - about $10k total for a low mileage vert it will get a few grand worth of paint next year
5th one - $500 because I might want to build another one some day and the price was right.
I still have all of them but the first one.

Dirrybird, who started this thread in 2002, was probably 16 at the time. He is now into a C5 vette last I checked. I think back in 2002, he needed to see into the future of a gearhead. I'm sure by now he figured out that he'll be spending a lot of coin on these toys.
I dont keep track of what I have spent. I am on the 5th engine combo in my convertible. It went from stock to slightly modified, to nitrous'd, to a 355, then a 396, now an inline 6 junkyard engine with boost. It's been a good time cruising, racing, etc.

At least that's what several members of my family think about it. But, in their defense, for what I'm into these for and what I spend a year racing them, I could have a Lambo or Ferrari in the garage instead with a Vette for a daily driver. I just don't think it would be the same or quite as much fun though for some reason. I grew up with these things and now I have the disposable income to do all the terrible things to them that I wanted to do when I was young enough to buy the car new but too broke to actually do.Originally Posted by AutoRoc

I do not want to know anymore.
Car purchase was $1500 only (roller)
4 years later, countless man hours, and its turned into a love/hate thing. But I won't sell it anytime soon.
Prob over $20,000 I bet by now and it'll never be fully completed.
I shoulda bought a newer Vette as mines turned into a Vette with a camaro body basically.

nice! where do I get those seats? I really like them! So far where I'm at is $1,000 for the car. $807 in collecting parts and getting it running perfect again. The only other costs I see in the near future will be for painting the body. Then of course mods down the road. Which will add up fast I'm sure. I already have an 80 Camaro I'm already modding some more by adding LS1 rear disc brakes and PTFB front and rear suspension this winter. I've had that car 10 years and I'm still always doing something to it. Unfortunately the IROC has to sit in storage for the winter.

Easily over 40,000 probably closer to 50,000 once the turbo setup is running.
Lets see, $1150 for car not running, $1800 for engine rebuild, $1500 for tranny and rebuild, $12-1500 for suspension parts, tpi clutch/plate and misc parts, and still not running yet :/ Just got to get battery, fluids and tranny installed and should be good to go.
