that's a pretty good story, my friends didn't believe it was my car when i told them either so i know where your coming from. the old lady hated the car until she walked into a grocery store and saw the magazine. called me up to say someone had a car that looked just like mine on the cover of some high tech gm thing.

yeah i forgot to tell her.... it was good for a laugh or two.

the funniest expressions are of cashiers when you buy all the issues off the rack, i always get some really odd comment about that one.

I have since sold the Z28 in favor for a much faster better looking GTA that will one day, with any luck, look as good as that one and then hopefully gain even more respect for thirdgens as your car did. I cant say enough about that car and I wish you still had it so we could keep looking at it on here, I loved to watch the cars progress over the years and it will be missed for sure. I just hope your next project stays thirdgen because Im sure whatever you do will bring more respect to that type of car as you seem to do great and tasteful work especially when every other car out there is way overdone due to the tuner guys making it seem like the norm and muscle car guys dont get the attention as much anymore.
i appreciate the kind words, i've actually spoken with the owner and i might be purchasing it back... haven't decided.

I'll have you know i have seen tons of pics, the cardomain site is on my bookmarks tab to check for new pics, i have the chp, popular hotrodding, and yet i still went to a pep boys, autozone 2 checkers, 3 7-11's, 2 walgreens a target and a walmart last night at 8:30 when i got off work trying to find an issue to no luck. Its one of those things for example you told me teh grey panel and radiator support i had painted looked cheap and the black outs, i thought about it said yea they do, now i will pm kandied and bounce some of my more exotic ideas off him to kinda get a solid comment whether or not that something that would attract attention or whatever. I take it around and show everyone lik eyea i've talked to that guy!
thanks for such nice comments. yeah there are moments where i miss the car but it served it's purpose and i'm not at total loss without her with the project i'm working on now. as i said above there is a chance i might get her back. i will always have a place for that car but it was the road to get there that i fell in love with.

as far as the magazines technically it isn't suppose to be on newstands until the 23rd however some get them early and many keep them in back until the previous issues sell. the best way is to track down a place that sells the magazine period and just ask for it. if they test you tell them its your car, they won't know and they'll be surprised you know what's on the cover already.

I still haven't decided... but man it's tempting!

i just sold one for $80 shipped which netted me a whole $11 and the rest went to shipping. check the for sale section as they are all around for reasonable prices.

as far as the car... i don't want this to be a discussion of the new. it will be a few months, i am sure it won't disappoint.

Darn Mr.Blackburn... if only I'd have known. I recently bought one off ebay for $95 however I didn't clearly read that the seller would take the item to UPS for shipping and packing.. cost me $88 alone for s/h! Not to mention the bolt hold-down's are cracked and damaged

I'm still waiting for my aluminum L98 heads to arrive

Jeff,
Once again I have to hand it to you - that car is/was drop dead gorgeous! It is so tastefully put together that it is just stunning.

Im very much looking forward to see what you have in store for the current project - Im sure it will be another great creation. I must say I had hoped for a ragtop project - but Im confident it will be exciting no matter what

Your attitude and perspective is inspiring to the rest of us - so keep up the good work bud!!

so you paid $95 for the item and then they charged you another $88 to ship?

see i was quoted $35 to ship so i asked $80 even though i paid $100 i wanted to make some of it back. got there and they wanted just over $60 to ship. i didn't anticipate it but it was my mistake so i bit it and paid the price to keep the buyer happy.

Went to a newstand place today and asked for it they only had the march issue so i asked her when it would be out she goes its actaully here now but we cant put it out yet, so i bugged her and told her to pull one out and look at the feature, told her she'd find a candy camaro that the rear plates read all4show, she pulled it out and sold it to me!

Man i cant wait for the day that i go to the store and buy like 15 copies cause my car is in it.

yeah that's one of three favorite pictures out of that shoot. i actually posted here and over at cz28.com when i was doing the shoot inviting everyone for a generic bbq meet and greet day. the photographer was actually looking for other possible vehicles to do write ups on but i wasn't allowed to tell what it was for. over 40 cars showed up and some 60 people throughout the day for a great bbq and meet. that end shot as the sun set had over 30+ remaining people standing by the car as the photographer stood atop a picnic table with an open time lapse and tripod setup.

they had some really cool photos of everyone blurred around the car but unfortunately they blocked the lines of the car so they weren't used. out of 498 shots and some 20 time lapse photos we were luckily he got one in that didn't hide the lines and that's the one you see...

WOW Thats inspiration.....
That is my goal also, to reverse the common stereotype of the thirdgen. I see many fox body mustangs that have been saved and done nicely in OklahomaCity, but no 82-92 car around here even comes close to that....

your observant...

i wanted to repaint the car and redo the interior, well it was cheaper to sell a car with good paint and good basic interior. i'd rather loose a little money parting the car out to people that want the individual parts then just loosing alot keeping it all on. i was able to convert it to stock z28 specs, new of course for 1/8th the price of the parts i pulled off and still get a good amount for it. just made more sense.

you have the same looking car but black so it's going to be that much harder for you. magazines dislike black with a passion too so you'll need some horsepower but i welcome you to try as i would love to see it in a mag, that would be great.

i'm not sure as it varies state to state. i found them at all major book/magazine stores, 7/11's have them here as well as the grocery stores. it is sort of hit and miss unlike the other primedia magazines though so i'm not really sure. may not even be out at all places yet as it wasn't suppose to be on newstands as soon as it did. unfortunately you'll just have to look around, you could order them direct but they charge $8 an issue which is outrageous.

That's why I want another one....I drove two 3rd Gens for 16 1/2 consecutive years (3-83 to 10-99) and I still love them. The young punks whose 4th Gen is their first F-body always manage to rub me the wrong way....

My only problem is that I only have a two car garage and I wouldn't want my next 3rd Gen to sit outside any more than I would either of my '99s!

Great car and congratulations on the magazine covers!

And a little tip to save you some money. When the new issues come out larger book stores usually keep the issues from the last month in the back. If you make friends with someone at borders or something they will usually give them to ya! (I used to do this back in the day when my band got write ups)

Congrats Kandied91z! She turned out nice!

I smell a targa top 91-92 Z with a LS-2, and possibly a power adder or two in the works!

Am I close?

After I get the new wheels and finish the turbo TPI project, I may need some contact info from ya for a mag or two.

Anyways, I hope you get her back and I hope it's in the budget to build to 2 sick cars!

Good luck,

Mike

no the plate was a standard plate. i had classic insurance but the car isn't old enough to have a classic plate. as far as the plate it self my late grandfather came up with it. he use to always say the car must be all for show as all i ever do is work on it and right when i was getting ready to order a plate he passed away.
