Trick Front License Plate Mounting

My dad had an '82 Firebird and he mounted his front plate on a hinge connected to the front bumper, I think on existing screws. Well now this Firebird is going to get the same trick mounting. It flies up when you're driving, but when you're parked, it shows as a normal plate. Any ideas, comments or improvements on this?? I think it'll be cool, I'm just wondering what might happen when the front bottoms out....

Sounds like a good idea, but when you're driving I think you would want to have the license plate visible, or you'll get pulled over, if law requires it to be visible on the front. I like the idea, but if it were the other way around, I think it'd make more sense. Good idea, and let us know how it turns out.

I know it's about an $80 fine in the state of Ohio... Trust me, got one. Cop must've been havin' a bad day (that pr!ck).

But I have been warned about it before, so the copy that wrote me was actually the 2nd to spot it.

Still, it sucked....

My friend came up with some kind of idea to make something so he could push his rear plate up/down from a switch. He does lots of backwoods street racing so if a cop showed and tried chasing him he'd drop the plate and floor it. Weird idea but I think hes actually going to do it.

What do you mean the other way around? Do you mean always down? But then doesn't that make your ground clearance even worse? (driving over speed bumps) I wonder if it applies when I go take my drive test. The car will be stopped, so the plate will be down. That's all I really need it for. Both of my uncles haven't been pulled over yet for having no front plate on their vettes.

I'll take my chances and just leave the front plate off. I can always try the "I have the bracket on order" excuse

I've had to use that excuse twice within the last couple months! I didn't have a front plate on my Z28 for years and never got hassled. I've had my RS for less than a year and have already been pulled over twice for no front plate!

I've mounted the hinges, not bad looking. I'll take pics when I get my new plate. Does anyone have any suggestion on Plate Fasteners? (Should be flat on the back side) Right now it's only mounted w/ these cheap plastic fasteners I found for computer boards. Oh and does anyone know how long it takes to process a personal plate here in CA?

Its a gamble, any way you go about it if you don't want to pay the fine or fight it in court you're best off to leave the plate in its normal spot. Otherwise the cop can say he didn't see it, and thats really all that matters. Personally I drive my cars once in a great while so I'm not too concerned, I have the plate in the trunk glove box and I don't mind having to put it back on.

My front plate is still in the top dwawer of my file cabinet in my Camaro file where it's been for over 10 years. Never had a problem, knock on wood. Lon

Here's the spot, I'm havin a little trouble with getting the holes to align. Could I just drill holes in the new plate? Does CA have a problem with that?
