Yeah, i don't even have my '87 finished and i find a 5spd 86 Z28. I couldn't pass it up considering everything that has been replaced on it already. Here's the Craigslist ad.

Quote:
1986 Chevy Camaro Z28 numbers matching car, 5.0. H.O., 5spd, lots of new parts: plugs, wires, cap, battery, tires, flowmaster exhaust, headliner, dash pad, speakers. Car needs paint (clear coat peeling) Car runs and drives excellent very clean and straight $1800 obo
And here's the pictures from the ad. Sorry, i didn't take any more before i started working on it today.

I got it for the right price, two dime size spots of surface rust on the doors, but other than that it is great. The paint is at least a ten year old MAACO job so it's bad but the car is clean and straight. The interior is great and it runs like new, partly because it pretty much sat since '99. I drove it about 80 miles home last night and another hundred or so today and it's great having a 5spd again.

Here's what it looks like right now.

As you can see the silver and wheels had to go. These are brand new tires to replace the brand new all seasons that were on it when i picked it up. Next week the rest of the car gets painted.

Re: Bought another one
Those are honestly my favorite wheels. I'm gonna repaint the car Hawaiian Orchid and leave the gold on the bottom . I bought it to use the tranny in my '87 so i'll throw the auto in this one and my wife can haul the kids around in it. I'm actually looking for another 5sp so i can leave this car the way it is but if i don't find one i'll swap them over. My wife prefers manual cars but she'll drive either.

Re: Bought another one
The wheels on this one are beat up a bit but i fell into them and i have a refinisher locally that will fix them up when i take them over to him. Here's a Hawaiian Orchid convertible.

My wife likes purple and i don't mind it so 'm painting it the color she likes. If it doesn't look right with the gold no biggie, i'll just paint the whole thing purple.

Get the rims redone in the original gray.. or just do it urself. Other wise, that color is cool, But Id do the whole thing that color, I like the gold with the black, but with the purple... no way.

Even though the paint is old, the car looks like a really fun ride.

I don't like them in gray, i prefer the gold but there were two different colors of gold used so when you buy a set you need to make sure they are the same color. I got this set off of a car going to the scrapyard, traded him a set of aluminum s10 wheels for them.

Re: Bought another one
I picked up my paint supplies today, hoping to paint next week. Then i got on ebay because i was looking for gold emblems and maybe a rear bumper cover since mine has a small tear. Instead i bought all of this for less than $200 shipped to my door.

I got the emblems and the rear bumper cover i was after. Then i got a ton of spares to go with it. An extra front ground effect is always a handy thing. Considering i got the everything for less than a front ground effect i'm very happy.

Re: Bought another one
Is that really an HO or just an upgraded air cleaner cover? Based on my records, there were only 74 L69 cars built in 1986. You might want to verify that. It may be worth a full restoration!

Looks like a nice find. I'd leave it gold/black. It always looked nice to me esp. with those 16's.

It's not the dual snorkel air cleaner so it's most likely just a different lid. I mainly bought it because it was a 5spd. The last paint job was a real hackjob so i need to replace the window sweeps eventually because they cleared them instead of masking them and they are in pretty poor shape but i only drive it in nice weather.

Re: Bought another one
I'm going to get it sanded and all the detail painting done tomorrow. Wednesday will be spot touch up day most likely because it's going to rain a bit. Thursday evening should be the main painting day so hopefully by the end of the week it will be ready to drive again.

This car actually has me pretty hyped up to get my t-top car done also so that's a good thing. I may be able to get my other one in paint by the end of next month. Since i do body and paint in my spare time i have to fit it in my "booth" between customer cars. I have to hang a quarter on an H3 and fix the side of a Solstice after i get this car painted so if i can get enough time to work on my other Camaro i will have two of them in my driveway.

The rocker panel pieces look like the early Z items. They appear shorter than the door sections!

Re: Bought another one
They came off an '86. I needed the emblems and i'll probably use the passenger side one on my '87. The only parts i really needed were the emblems, rear bumper cover and the driver rear rocker molding. The rest is just extra since i have about four sets of ground effects.

Re: Bought another one
Well, it's purple and not wetsanded or buffed.

It looks good but i'm going to sand it back out and do it again because i'm not completely happy with it. Little things that i would be the only one to notice most likely but i still know they are there.

Re: Bought another one
Well, it's blue. It's almost flourescent and would probably blind you if stared at in direct sunlight. It's exactly what i was looking for.

I put it back together so i can drive it but when i get a day off in a couple weeks i'll sand and buff it but it's good enough to drive the way it is.

Re: Bought another one
I liked the purple also but I decided if I was going to paint it again I was going for something ungodly bright and nauseating. I definitely accomplished that so I kind of like it. .y kid wanted it to be cotton candy pink so we compromised on candy blue. It's a crazy color but I tend toi repaint my cars every year or so anyways so who knows what color it will be next.
