Bast Bang Brake Upgrade for the Buck
Hi everyone,
I am starting the proccess of investigating an brake system upgrade for my 82 Firebird. I still have the orignial brake system Disc/Drum. The system has been maintained for 24 years and is currently in good operating condition. So I'm not in a big rush here. And I'm currently in the middle of upgrading my 200c transmission to an electroincally controlled 4L60e.
First, I want to keep my current rear end, so I need to know the options for upgrading my current rear end to disc?
Second, Is is best both cost wise and for availablity to keep with all GM parts?
Third, is there really good aftermarket kit available using all GM parts?
Here is some informaiton about the car!
Engine Goodwranch 350 with TPI fuel injection
Transmission: 4L60e "New" with TCI controller. "looking at Paddle Shifters"
Suspension. Completed, Eibach Pro springs, 32/23 swar bars, Spohn suspension upgrades, BMR STB, Spohn SFCs, Wondar Bar, 245/50vr16 tires, and "AT Italia" 16 x 8.wheels.

What wheels are you running? This is a limiting factor for a change to 'big
brakes'. I did the C5 Corvette brakes using parts from my store and Ed Miller,
and they stop like a *****. I'm currently gathering parts to do the rear with
LS1 disc set-up. I have 17" SLP Hyper-Black wheels, so size of the rotor
is not an issue for me, but the front calipers are pretty close to the wheels....

I think you'll be limited to the 1Le brakes with the 12" rotor, but I'd contact
Ed Miller (helluva guy-BTW) for starters.

You also have standard fitting brakes. I'm not sure it'll be that big of deal if your going to replace most of your system anyway. Depending on your wheels either ls1 or c4 front brakes with either pbrs or ls1 rear brakes.
