rear brakes.

Ok so this is my first brake job. I have completed the entire front end, but the rear is giving me fits, I have Napa brake pads, that came with no hardware to hold the pad on the caliper, I have the original one which is like a c with a hook on the ends kind of thing. But do I have to reset the caliper all the way in or how?

Re: rear brakes.

I think the c thing you are talking about is the clip that sits on the bottom of your brake calipers, this clip helps the brake pads line up right.

Re: rear brakes.

Just make sure that you push the piston all the way in.

Re: rear brakes.

Which rear calipers do you have? If the iron Delco ones, the piston must be wound back in, not compressed. The rear pads don't use a clip.

Re: rear brakes.

Be careful when you push or wind the caliper back in, the master cylinder will over fill, if you crack the bleed screw a little as you push the caliper in, it won't over flow the master. When you bleed the master cylinder, when your finished, if its a used unit, don't let the brake pedal go all the way to the floor, it can damage the cups inside.
