I really hate to ask, but the search feature here, and on other sites really didn't give me much to go on.
I'm painfully aware that there is limited clearance for dash speakers in thirdgen Camaros...from what I've found here and other places, depth, particularly on the driver side is between 1.75 to 1 7/8ths...depending on who you talk to.
I'd really rather not hack the A/C vent, or the plastic surrounding the instrument cluster, or tack speaker grilles on top of the dash pad, but I've not seen this question answered...
Granted, the clearance below the speakers is not great...but how much clearance is normally between the dash pad and factory speaker, which would allow perhaps at least SOME clearance being gained by a spacer under the speaker? If so, how much can the speaker be raised before contacting the bottom of the dash pad?

Galaxie, I installed the Kicker 40CS462 2 WAY in there. I had no clearance issue. they are 1 3/4" deep. My dash does not hit them. As far as them being raised, I can't help you there.
on a another note...they sound really good.

I've never had an issue with the dash speakers in the Camaro, at least on the 82-89 cluster cars. Now the 85-up Firebird is a bit of a pain, they only have a small relief between the ducting and the cluster to clear the magnet. I just ran 3.5" dash speakers in my old Firebird, with a bolt in adapter they cleared fine.
I just replaced the factory front speakers on the '82 with Pioneer TSG4645R. The specs say they are 1-5/8" and I had no issues getting them installed.
