Now bear with me now because I don't know very much about speakers. Now, you know how different speakers have like 2 ways 3ways and 4ways for like the bass and different tweeters and things, how many ways are the stock 6x9 speakers? And how many watts are they rated at? Please help me out, I just want to get an improvement in sound in my car! Thank you. Eric

stock speakers are a 1 way speaker i'm pretty sure, and they are rated about 5 to 10 watts problably, with an 8 ohm voice coil. not forsure on this but this is in the ball park. other people on the board might be able to verify this. if you want better sound, go with an aftermarket speaker. you will get better performance than the wimpy stock speakers.

they were eiter 1 or 2 way (im pretty sure 2 way tho) and something like 8 RMS / 15 peak. any cheap after market speaker would sound better and have a better rating usually like 20 RMS / 45 peak for a cheapie. IMO a 3 way sounds best in 6x9s and 2 way plates for the 4x6s.

I 3rd that! Also the stock speakers are made out paper(cone)-they can't hold any power other then stock--and don't do that well either! Change them to anything and it'll be an improvement!

the stock 6x9's sucks severly. if you plan on upgrading you whole stereo I would get a deck first. it'll give you cleaner power and make a huge diffence in the sound. if you just change the speakers you might not hear the full effect of the aftermarke speakers untill you get a new head unit.

I guess I 6th that! The Stock Speakers are very cheap in our cars. Yes they have a paper cone which gets very brittle over time and usually falls apart. And yes most of them are just a single cone. Upgrading the speakers are a must. Even without upgrading the headunit it will bring a whole new life to the sound in your car.
