You probably have the 105 amp alt.

Well, I wouldn't drive it. Mine died on me and I didn't know it until I glanced at the gauge when my stereo was cutting out and my gauge read around 8 volts. About 1/2 mile downhill later, the car died and I had to charge it up to get home. I found that Autozone has the best price on remanufactured ones at around $60 apiece. DO NOT go to the GM dealer for it. They charge $280. I called them up, and when I heard the price, I decided that it wouldn't be so hard to replace it myself.

I think he's looking for an alternator with more than 105 amps. I think that summit sells some that are like 150 or so. It seems like I read somewhere you should expect to pay like $1/amp but I could be wrong on that.

As for how many amps you should get before the engine starts to get to loaded, I thought that the size of the alt wouldn't affect that, just how many amps you were pulling from it. Like say your alternator is a 150 or 200 amp alt. It's not always going to put the same load on the engine unless you are actually pulling 200 amps. At least that's how I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please ~Arnold
