I'm switching from tpi to carb right now, but I don't know what I should do with my old in-tank fuel pump. I have a brand new mechanical pump my brother never that I plan on using, but i've read that removing the old electrical fuel pump is a pain in the *** . Can I just disconnect the old fuel pump so that the mechanical pump sucks gas through it or is that bad for the pump? How much restriction can the old pump make? I know my old pump is not going to last much, so I want to use the new mechanical pump... what can I do?

My car came from the factory with a carb, so it has a mechanical pump, but it also came with an in tank pump which makes an unGodly noise when its running and for 5 seconds after i kill the ignition- I am also stumped in what to do in these circumstances

The in-tank fuel pump for a TPI generates @ 30-32 psi, the in-tank fuel pump for the LG-4 Carb 305 generates @ 4-5 psi, the mech pump generates 5 psi. You just might cause a fuel leak. Remove the in-tank pump and sock filter, there by remove any restriction. Removing a 'empty' fuel tank from my 87 Z28 was not to hard at all, worst part was removing the axle, this would be a good time to upgrade while axle is out.
