I'm thinking about switching to a non-CCC carb such as an edelbrock, but I dont want to switch to a non-CCC distributor. Could I just run the edelbrock carb and leave the two connectors to the carb unplugged? Would my car still run well with the CCC distributor. I need to keep my computer so I can switch the Qjet back on when smog time comes. Any advice?

You will not have adequate ignition timing advance without the CC carb. The ECM would not be getting the info it needs to make the advance decisions, so it will go into default mode. You may be able to set the base timing so it will run properly under one specific circumstance (one guy used it for racing, for instance), but it will be wrong for everything else.

CC carbs are fine. Work on getting yours to do what it needs to do. That will most likely cost you less than buying a new non-CC carb. Gas mileage and driveability will be better with a CC carb as well.
