i got a 88 firebird with the 6cyl 2.8L MPI, the hoses are original and i want to replace them as winters coming. ive done the upper and lower rad hoses a couple of months ago.

the heater core hoses have a small elbows at the heater core hookup that run to a metal pipe and from the metal pipe one goes to the intake(i think), and the other goes to the water pump. the 1 could be replaced with just straight bulk hose and bypass the metal pipe but the one that goes to the water pump cant because it has a bend in it.

i went to a couple parts stores and they both told me they dont carry that hose that goes to the water pump and they cannot even order it in

what have you guys used? any advice would be nice

I would not doubt if it is a part that they can not get. I know that on my v8's they run stright to the firewall and the hose goes onto the end of the pipe that sticks straight out.. most of the other cars i look at are very similar now.. at least the ones i have looked at.. you might have to go to the dealer and see if it is still made

does anyone know if there is anything inside of that long metal pipe inbetween the hoses like a restrictor or anything? if i could bypass that metal pipe i could probaly make my own heater core hoses...

I would not think there would be anything in between there.. since a restrictor would be for what purpose in a hose like that. you could probably get the proper size rubber hose and make one yourself
