Injector constant limit????

OK, I've got a weird problem. I haven't messed with my PROM for a while because I haven't modified anything since I got it tweaked out. Yesterday I put in some 30# SVO injectors though because my stockers were leaking badly. I fired it up afterwards to set the fuel pressure and everything was fine (other than it running extremely rich).

Today I couldn't find the .bin file on my hard drive that I had created that PROM from, so I figured I'd just read it off the PROM. Since I'm using the 29c256, I have some blank space before the actual data. I just deleted all of the preceding spaces using Notepad and Tunercat recognized it fine then. I changed the injector constant, reprogrammed it and put it in the car. The car started up and idled perfectly, but the SES light was on, and I couldn't pull the codes by jumping the pins on the ALDL port.

I figured that I probably deleted something I wasn't supposed to and tried it many different ways, but with the same result. So I reloaded the original 32kb file back into the PROM (with 22# constant) and it runs very rich, but with no SES light.

So then I went to the most recent .bin file that I had, and set that to 30# and put it in, and again SES light. I tried driving it and it runs, but not very well. So, the problem wasn't with me deleting the stuff, otherwise this one would've worked fine. And the only other thing I'm changing is the injector constant. So is there a limit to what the ECM can handle? Or am I just going nuts?

Try programming it with an all FF bin,
here's one

Interestlingly enough I can't include a .bin file. So here's a .zip of it, hope it works...

Thanks for the idea, but that wasn't it. I have figured out a little more though. Just on a hunch I tried removing the PROM that doesn't work for the Memcal and starting the car that way, and it started the exact same as when the PROM is there. So obviously I am corrupting something and forcing the ECM into limp home mode, but I don't know what I'm doing.

Here is the copy of the good .bin file that works correctly:
http://www.fbody.com/members/gtal98/bins/good22.Bin

And here is the .bin file that I tried modifying to work with the 30# injectors: (the 16k version)
http://www.fbody.com/members/gtal98/bins/bad30.bin

And here is the how it is read off of the PROM: (32k version)
http://www.fbody.com/members/gtal98/bins/bad.Bin

If anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong please let me know.

OK, nevermind I got it figured out. It had something to do with Notepad. I downloaded a free hex editor and deleted the preceding blank area with it and it worked fine. Thanks anyway though.

I burnt a few '165 chips on 29c256 this past weekend, here's what works.

(1) load setup defaults for 29c256
(2) fill buffer with FF
(3) program device (to clear it)
(4) reset start of device to 04000
(5) load 16k .BIN file
(6) program again

worked for me and was easier than the various extra file methods.

Edit: procedure clarified on 11/27/2005 and verified working!
