Iron headed L98 out of an 89 Iroc camaro. 083 cylinder heads. Purchased it with the engine still in the car, checked the RPO codes, heard it run, then he pulled it for me.
Had a misfire and i figured it was ignition related. Turned out to be a broken pushrod. So i tore the engine down to check everything. After i realized it wasnt going to be a direct drop in, I've decided to LS swap the car instead.
The bad- needs main, rod, and cam bearings, as well as pushrods and all gaskets for sure. I would personally have it hot tanked and do an oil pump, timing chain, cam and lifters, and hone the cylinders with new rings.
The Good- cylinders look good, just need a light hone. All 8 checked out to right at 4.000" all the way around. Crank journals look good. Pulled all the mains, and one rod cap. Everything looks great. No groves.
Engine is all reassembled, but everything is just hand tight. I have the oil pan for it as well. This is just for the longblock.
