To begin, i am NOT looking for a stock 305/350 TPI. i already have that! And im in no REAL hurry to reject the old 305, but its just too bland for my grand schemes. Im really looking for either a 383 stroker or an LT1. I can get a pretty nice one for around $3000 through connections, but im stingy so im looking for somthing used and a good bit cheaper lol. 
Seen some rebuilt/used LT1s go on ebay and other sites for between $500 - $1500 depending on condition/miles/ and if the engine was built up a bit. Anything like that would be pretty nice. A 383 stroker was the basis of my original plans however, and one in a similar price range would be quite acceptable, along with any nice built 350/355/396 etc
