Well I'm looking for a parts car and seem to have found one. I am doing the v6-v8 swap.

The parts car(Z28) has a 305 H.O. a new (so they say) 4bbl quadrajet carb, power windows T-tops. (My rust free car I'm building up has T's)

Now, I am just going to snag the carb, doors, engine/tranny mounts etc... and if the T-tops look better than mine they are coming off as well. He is asking $795 for it. The transmission skips 2nd gear, ac does not work, rust bubbles are around the front windshield, 85k miles on engine... its purple.

Maybe I could knock a few numbers down due the color Right now he thinks its going to be my DD. What do you think about the price for it?

You need to "snag" more than what you mentioned, but. . .

The car's worth about $1500 in working condition. The transmission is about a $1200-$1400 bill.

Sounds like it's overpriced.

Oh, and you need the transmission for the swap (unless you have another serviceable one just like it sitting around).

The transmission is not a problem at all. The interior looks a little shot, which I could honestly care less about. (It looks like it was pulled from a junk yard) This is the only car I can seem to find around here cheap for parts.. everything else is a 4th gen or around $3,000. What would you think I should ask for it then?

why do you need a parts car at all? i didnt use one. i got the trans case from ebay had to have it built up any way. the engine+trans mounts, and most other things you'll want to use aftermarket anyway. the wiring you could use from a parts car but i made new wiring so i could be sure of the integrety.

If you get this parts car take as much as you can salvage from it and donate the shell to a junkyard. (lots of work cutting them up) You'll want the V8 springs, etc if you don't have them (or aftermarket) already. Also, if you can salvage things like the fenders, bumpers, taillights, any usable parts from the interior you can sell these parts off and recoup your losses.

even nuts and bolts come in handy. not to mention when you take them off you learn more about how these cars go together. Valuable info for future repairs.

Does the V-8 car have better gauges than yours? swap them out if yes.

you may also need the v-8 mounts, lines, hoses and possibly wiring, too

Hmm, kind of confused, why is the transmission not a problem? You will need the transmission to do the swap, and if it skips 2nd then I would think it is a problem.

I guess it all depends on location - but BOTH my 1990 and my 1992 I paid less for - and they were both in running order, with complete clean interiors, working radios, etc. - they each had very slight body damage, and needed things like shocks, air filters, and a BATH! To me, $795 sounds high for - but I am here, and you are there (what an insightful thought! lol).
