Yeah, I see alot of cars needing switches, jammed shifters , modules etc. I guess if you want the cupholder there, great, but I would not do that....

Well I don't think he posted this for the "won't" people but rather for the "would like to" crowd. I can see your point, but honestly I would like to have a cup holder somewhere in my car that could be used for whatever I decide to put in it, cup or not.

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
i like "UNCLE TOM"s cup holder mod
This is what it started as
you just cut trim sand and drill it out to make what he did
i think im going to make me a UNCLE TOM setup, because it can be removed with no trace of it ever being there.

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
I think it is a great Idea, i just wouldn't cut up my car. Both idea's are great! If my car doesn't hold up over the years and I can't find parts to fix. Then i might do something like that. I'm more worried about how slow the damn thing is not cup holders. But I don't allow drinks in my car, and I drink water bottles. haha.

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
Manuals would make it more difficult, though I really think its not nearly in the way as it looks on the picture. I really don't even notice its there if its a can. You could also try one of the deeper cupholders that would lower it below the level of the arm rest. Actually in that last picture I could make it sit lower if I didn't have the rubber insert in it.
I'm sure there are even better ideas to be thought up. But if anyone is looking for something quick, easy, and cheap, this one might be good.

This is something I've been wanting to do.
I would like to be able to use plastic pop bottles with it too, but I can't seem to find a 3 inch ones. I see the one that you bought, and all the other ones they sell don't have any specs.
Does anyone see one that is larger than the 2 7/8.
Also, how deep is the one that you got?
I found this one, that looks a little deeper

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
wonder if this would hold a large mcdonalds ice tea cup...hmmm thats the only drink i ever have in my car thats not a bottle and when i get them its a pain to shift, drive, and hold onto my cup so this would be good for me since i get alot of tea from there.

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
I found a jumbo one for $3.15 on ebay and the listing says the size is 3.53 inches. Wild that hold a pop bottle?, the large is only 3.20"

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
u can use like a 3" hole saw (or biggest you have) then do finishing touchs with a dremel. or make a outline...use small drill and a jizsaw..i personally had like a 2 1/2 in hole saw and then had to dremel out the rest...doesnt have to be perfect as long as you can cover the hole...lol

Got mine installed last night, bought a 3 1/4 hole saw, cut the hole then had to lightly file to get it in there but it looks good

Re: $3 cup holder that looks perfect
I got a stainless steel one for a couple of bucks on Amazon. Painted it with Plastidip until I can get it powdercoated when I do the interior later in the year, It looks like it is factory too...
