Hey, I recently got an '88 S/C, and just after that my dad got a titleless 84 (originally a 305 i believe) z28 rolling chassis that I'm using for parts. Both Auto's. I don't know what tranny my 88, or the 84 has. Any way for someone here to know?

Anyways, I got a few little knicknacks like I needed for the interior and whatnot. A perfect dash pad which that alone sells for almost 200$ on ebay and some 5-spokes in slightly better shape.

Anyways, looking at the tech chart on the site here, it looks like the z28 has either a 3.27 or 3.47 geared rear-end, and also looks like my 88 has like a 2.77 (forgive me, those aren't the exact #'s but they were something like that when I looked). So anyways I'll probably switch out the rear ends. And also it has the fatter linkage stabilizers that attach to the axle's (sorry brain fart forgot what they're called) so I'll take those too.

Now, what else? Anything with the suspension or what have you that an older z28 would have over a 4 year newer S/C? Does it likely have a better tranny too? or is it the same one?

I really hope this '88 is worth restoring. I got it for 800$, it has a 350 in it, flowmaster, and runs good. It's pretty beat up, but still turns heads as it sounds really nice, in my opinion, and runs pretty good. It also came with a fiberglass hood with the two scoop hole thingys in it (z28, irocs had them) and an extra set of side gfx.

thanks for any help!!!

Is the Z28 rear a posi? I had a 3:73 non-posi in my 84 Z.

Personally I like the Z28 and Irocs, but if you want to restore an RS, more power to you!

Things that you may want to transfer over from the Z28:

Sway bars
Hood (Is it the lighter one?)
Speedometer/tach

Was the 88 stock with the 350 or was it a 6 cyl to start? If it was a 6 you may want the Z28 springs too.

I don't know if the z28 rear is posi, but it would be freakin sweet if it is!!!! And that's also good news that you had 3:73, maybe mine is!! I'll almost definitely switch rear ends, as the chances are very probable that the z28 is geared a lot lower. For one, the z28's are lower in the first place, and the older cars, from what I've seen, had lower gears than the later models.

Also, I'll take the fatter sway bars. The guages are the exact same, so I guess that's cool my coupe came with the good guages. (a tach and what have you instead of dummy lights)

Also the 88 had a 305 in it, so I guess I don't need to change springs then.

And by the way, my 88 is a sport coupe (the base model I guess) not an RS. But the way I see it, if I just switch the rear end and sway bars and rear end from the older z28, and then get the newer 91-92 RS or Z28 ground effects, I basically have a z28/RS don't I? (lower gears, trim package, sway bars, smallblock)

Thanks! and any more input from anybody would be greatly appreciated
