Looks interesting, but there isn't anything mechanically different than the other 220hp 305 TPI motors.

Hmmm, beat a TTA, in a straight line? Nope, that's what we call BS around here.

It was a "spec" motor for the Pleyer's Challenge racing series. It's basically stock, no different cam or heads or anything; slightly blueprinted, to the extent of verifying that it meets all "specs"; then the various hardware that the teams were forbidden to touch, daubed with a drop of paint.

It has a little historical fun to it, but other than that, it's a normal, average, stock, 305 TPI (the better one, for 5-speed cars). 220 HP or whatever they called it in whatever year it was built.

Plus, some slightly over-enthusiastic ad copy.

I agree a TTA should be faster in a straight line ... but a Player's car, being a race prepped car would out handle it. Although the lighter weight of a TTA would be interesting to test out.

Thinking about it. In a road course, the 305, 5 speed would out perform a 3.8 turbo automatic car. Hands down, no questions. The better gear ratios and more even torque curve of the V8 would be a better choice on the road course. So in one way, it would blow the doors off. The 1/4 mile track would be all TTA.

I recall back in the day, there was a few 5.7L Auto cars run against the 305 5 speed cars ... more or less to test the reliability of the 700R4. The 5 speed was a better choice on the track. You could not get full use of the 5.7L torque with the auto. I'd guess the same is true for the TTA. You'd probably end up fish-tailing the TTA in the first corner when you tried to get on the throttle to get out of the corner.
