What year has that style of Heater controls and can this style control be swapped in place of the newer style with the large sliders and ****???

I am doing a custom rebuild of the dash/radio/center console and need a more narrow set of controls that will fit in place of the pocket/lighter combo in a 97 and up center console. Those controls look narrow enough to fit but how different is the backside?
