I'm still trying to determine if the '83 L69 has the original engine. Where is the # on the block, and is it stamped on a plate and attached to the block, or stamped right into the block.

Stamped on the block itself, on the deck, right behind the alternator. If it's the car's original block it will have the last 6 digits of the car's VIN stamped there, among other things.
