Yes, that is an original package that was offered through Pontiac. I'd never seen or heard of it either, but a 1988 product manual I recently acquired had a color insert and all the ordering info in there on this package.

The exterior styling pieces were designed and built by Auto-Fab, Inc.... the same company that did the GTA Notchback decklids.

Yup, it's definitely real, a 1988-only dealer option package.

This one's a 1988 V-8/5-speed car, AND it has the Special Appearance Package, all of which I was looking for when I was shopping for another Firebird earlier this year--except this one's a hardtop car, so I'd have had to have it chopped and swapped for a t-top roof. But it was very far away from me, and the price was way too high. Then I found a local 'vert, instead, that I'd passed-up once before, so I couldn't pass it up again.

I talked on the phone with the seller of this car a few times back around March/April, when he had it listed before. He seems like a good guy, just that he was banking on the rarity of the package making the car worth a lot more than it was. But this time it looks like he's got it priced more appropriately, and it should be a good car, so it oughta sell fairly easily, I'd think.

If I had the space for it, I'd go ahead and add it to my 'stable' now, too, but I don't even have the space for the 'vert I just got!

Actually no its not a Dealer package, it was a package offered thru any dealership thru GM, Z20 is an RPO and the parts are listed in the parts & Illustrations catalogs for 82-92 Firebirds.

In 1988 if you remember the SC Camaro could have been had with a Wing similar to the Firebird wing, likewise the Firebird could have been had with a Spoiler similar to a Camaro Spoiler.

The package never took off, and in 1989 The Base firebird could have been had with the Trans AM GFX as an option, but with the standard wing and the standard hood, in 1991 this option became rather dominant and almost all Firebirds came with the GFX. In a mannor of speaking it was a stepping stone to those cars.

In reality it is a pretty neat package, Unfortunately it was nothing more than appearance.
