Can anybody supply the GM part number for the hood struts? I have an 85 IROC and I would like to replace these. TIA

Just go to auto parts store and ask for replacement struts for your model year. They are a common part and are available everywhere. Prices also vary and you don't need a GM part number.Originally Posted by Xleratorss

The only times you run into trouble is if you have a factory,or aftermarket, fiberglass hood and the counter person wants to sell a set for the steel hood. And on the rear hatch if you have,or add, window louvers or change spoiler type can affect which set you would need.

I know I can get hood struts from many different locations, but I was hoping that the GM one's would be the same manufacture and part numbers, I would like to keep it as original as possible. Originally Posted by DJP87Z28

If I can't get them from GM or they aren't anything special for way too much money, then I will head over to the local auto parts place.
Anybody know the GM part number for these hood struts?
Thanks!

In the '82-'88 Camaro parts catalog the hood struts are listed as
P/N 14019157(Exc Z28)I imagine it's for the steel hood and it's still a good part number - GM list $44.00 ea. and GMpartsdirect.com $27.00 ea.
P/N 14045326 (Z28) This is probably for the composite hood

Perfect! Thanks a lot! That is what I needed. You must have been reading my mind, I was going to put an order in at GMPartsdirect and I wanted to add these to the order (not like it will save me any money on shipping) but just wanted to keep it together!Originally Posted by coolram62

Coming from someone with a stock car, the hood struts are better going aftermarket. At $44 each from the dealer, I replaced mine 3x in 3 years. After getting frustrated at car shows by the hood not staying up, I bought aftermarket. Nobody deducts points and the have lasted 4 years now. The rear hatch is even more than $44 and they lasted about as long. New aftermarket struts for the rear hatch still have lots of umph after 4 years also. I do have the heavy duty rear struts because of louvers.
