I have searched and poked around looking for info on factory assembly manuals, more specifically for my 85 Iroc-Z, but only find them offered in 1982 & 1986.
Can I get some advice on which manual would serve me best?
Thanks,

Helm is the best source... They sell the official GM service manuals.
When I bought my book in 1988 they were $180 but its worth the price. I see the one for your '85 is $276.00 https://www.helminc.com/helm/product...885&itemtype=N
There are reprints, more like photocopies, or what they call the "assembly manual", available. It's just a bunch of loosely organized copies of pages removed from a 3-ring binder, with no index, no TOC, and only a rough semblance of a functional document. They only ever printed the years from 82-86. Pretty sure they're coming from one of the repro brake line companies now, assuming they're still being printed. About all they're good for is some of the assembly line trivia, obsolete part numbers, stuff like that. I wouldn't put a lot of faith into it, since the book itself has a disclaimer that basically explains they were copied from manuals used rarely in the factories and may be missing pages or contain outdated info.
If you really want a manual for the car, you're better off with the GM/Helm Service Manual. Check ebay. Beyond that, the Parts and Illustration Catalog can come in handy, but you're better off using one of the dozens of GM Dealer's online parts search engines that can be found all over the internet. Or use one of the other online resources like http://www.austinthirdgen.org/parts/html/main1.htm or http://www.gmpartswiki.com/ since the online resources usually cover a lot more data, and they take up less space on your book shelf. Not to mention if everyone rushed out and tried to buy a hard copy of the books, they wouldn't be available.
Generally if you need one time specific info, ask and someone here will fill you in.
