thinking about swap a ls1 in my 85 z. my question is can i keep this swap under $5500, if i go used ls1 motor? how much you think a shop would charge 4 a swap like this?

Eh, it will likely cost more if you add labour ontop.

I can say without the slightest doubt in my mind i spent 100+ Hours doing the swap.

At $40/hr labour, your looking at $4k in labour alone. Then tack on $4k+ for a motor/trans, $800 for headers + whatever a Y is. It adds up fast. Trust me on that.

My budget was $2k. I spent a bit over $4500, i did the swap myself, fabricated my own headers, mounts, etc. Had friends help wire it, and got a good price on a motor/trans ($1750)

If you did it yourself you might be able to do it for around that. Ls1 engine and trans 2500-4500. Good luck

If you have a shop do it, no way.
At the 10 days it took me that's still close to 100 hours like the other guy said. I don't know of any shop that does basic work for less then $60/hr.
But that's not even the biggest issue. Unless you can get it to hawks or someone that has a clue, most any shop will laugh at you if you ask them to do this since they have no fricking clue how to do this swap.

Your probably too far away but I have a complete running 99Ws6 ls1/a4 car.

i called a few shops just to see how much they would cost they say 3k or so. If you cant do it, ask around local people that know a hella lot abot these things and see if they would do it for cheaper.
