Junkyard turbo ls builds?

Hey guys a friend of mine is about to start doing an ls swap in his s10 and asked me for advice on going turbo.I have no experience with doing boost and since I might go this route eventually I figured to ask questions here.

Im curious what some of you go hunting for when doing such junkyard builds as far as going single turbo.Any certain makes or model car/truck that people are using to add about 10lbs? I myself think 8lbs would be plenty for me..ofcourse I say this now but probably will change later lol.

If you have jy turbo ls build id love to see what you did and what parts you used.My friend also wants to just through a 6.0 in his s10 and jam some boost and see what happens for a cheap build for fun.thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Junkyard turbo ls builds?

search "denmah" on youtube and ls1tech, he loves junk yard 4.8's and 5.3 turbos. He had a 700hp 10 second ford fairmont running an $80 JY 4.8 (i believe it was a 4.8) with a cheap turbo. Pretty sure it had mixed matched heads on it too. It was his videos and threads that got me to forget about the 6.0's after seeing his 4.8's and 5.3's take 22 psi DAILY and be somewhat realiable. check it out

Re: Junkyard turbo ls builds?

6.0's are more rare now. 4.8 and 5.3 are where its at. Later model trucks are what you want. They started putting in stronger rods and 243 heads on some of the later years 5.3, 4.8 motors but a older 5.3 with weaker rods still can hold 700hp without much issue so as long as motor was in good condition being pulled it will take boost with a good tune

My 6.0 is in fantastic shape,i wouldnt worry about putting low boost on it right now.Cant argue the amazing things guys are doing with them 4.8/5.3's on stock bottom ends is crazy.Im looking for ideas on some good jy turbos to hunt for when im at the local scraper.

Ill check out those vids also.Love seeing guys make big power on small budget.

Re: Junkyard turbo ls builds?

There are some you can get off diesels that can work maybe as a small single or as twins. I am not to familiar with factory spec turbos. Project89 may help here

Re: Junkyard turbo ls builds?

Def check out the fairmont videos if you want some inspiration. He seems to be able to just slap things together and random and they work out great. He started with a 4.8 and was running megasquirt II I believe. Pretty sure he got into the low 10's or maybe even 9's with that combo.

I think he's since started to use the factory PCMs as he's been running a newer Chevy truck.

His 4.8 did have two different heads on it. And he would break a ringland, throw in a new piston in that bore, and go run it haha. Its VERY entertaining to watch, and makes me want to slap together something like that.

His youtube channel is sloppymechanics or something like that.

Lol yeah I just caught some of his videos..very unorthodox way to build but it works for him.Cant argue facts that the car runs good times for something literally slapped together from scrap.
