ned some advice

as you have seen i have posted alot about computures and eproms, well as of today the mechanic i have working on my 86 camarohas not fix it and it will not run ay all.so i need some of your thoughts ,i took the car down to my mechanic to switch out an eprom (1630659 to 16087038) he did not unplug the battery ,he said you did not have to do that ,now he has fried 3 computure and both eproms ,he did say that on the second computure that he smelled wires burnning ,so we got the third computure today he fried that one too and the eprom ,now the only thing that was wrong with the car was cold start and the fix for that was in the 16087038 eprom update ,but the bad thing is the car was running and driveable now i have to get it towed home ,done paid him a 100.00 on labor but it was ove that left over ,he says just forget about what is owed and not let it be no hard feelings ,so i'am trying to keep my cool so i can get my car back .this is what i am looking at in damages ,2-eproms ,3-computers ,and wireing that was burnning ,i'am not looking for legal advice ,i would like to know what your thoughts are if you were in my shoes

thank you for your thoughts

Re: ned some advice

Find a used ECM and get a new eprom burnt and install it yourself. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST though. Anytime you're doing work with electrical on a car you should ALWAYS disconnect the battery. Then don't ever take it back to that mechanic.

The ECM is extremely easy to get to. I installed a new eprom in mine in under 30 minutes. It's on the passenger side behind the kick panel under the dash. I think there's 4 screws holding it in and you just have to unplug two harnesses going into it.

This is exactly why I don't ever let anyone else touch my vehicles. Half of the "mechanics" these days are worthless.

Good luck man. Keep us posted.

Re: ned some advice

If you towed the car there, and then they got it to run, but now you have to tow it back you have no case. Whatever happened at the shop is irrelevant as long as it comes out of the shop in same or better condition.

You pay for all original labor and parts, if they fried three computers on you thats on them. The first should be on you.

Also you cant just take the car from them and expect them to pay for a tow. They can claim its still fixable they just need more time.

If all said and done they cant fix it, its in worse condition then when it came in, and you have to get it towed home. They have to pay for everything.
