I'm pretty sure your friend is wrong. Sure your car may run without it, but you will pull codes and your enginge will run like crap. Keep the MAF. That is, unless you want to change you setup to speed density.

i'm pretty sure the car wont run with out a MAF. i drive the same year, and have a round cylinder-like K&N filter with the old setup, drilled box though.

i did see a setup online where a dude used 3" PVC piping (cheap found in any hardware store) and it connected to the MAF with a circular opening. i was a cone Filter for another make car. didnt spend much either.

jobryan26 and I both had cold air intakes with conical air filters on the end of pvc. Be forewarned: the pvc will melt over extended usage. If you want to build a GOOD QUALITY LONG LASTING setup, click on the link below. The pics are big, but the tech article is behind the link on the page.

If you have any questions, email me. I'm trying to get thirdgen.org to put the info up as a tech article, but they won't email me back.

now that setup ROCKS!!!

i would have to agree with EYECANDY, and not stick with the PCV setup. plus, this way, you wont be paying off the *yin-yang* for a brand name, although they do dyno test and are proven HP gainers...,

BUT, that is beside the fact. you'll feel good about the custom work, and i bet the gain isnt all that far apart, if any...
